Sheppey Matters Sheppey Matters is an award winning health & wellbeing charity, based on the Isle of Sheppey.

A group working towards better health and wellbeing for the community. Unless a donor specifies that their gift is for a particular purpose, donations received by Sheppey Matters are used wherever they are most needed to support and sustain our services, projects and charitable work across the Isle of Sheppey.

🚐We attended the Transport Talks Roadshow earlier this month! It was great to meet other community transport providers, along with the Community Transport Association and hear their stories.

We were particularly inspired by Woking Community Transport who have developed an electric fleet of vehicles. It was great to hear from Dr Victoria Armstrong (CEO of CTA) who spoke about the campaign to change D1 licensing rules. These changes would help us recruit more drivers and volunteers within Sheppey Wheels and support the future of community transport.

👋❓What does it mean to be a Community Transport Driver? Let's meet our minibus drivers and find out what it means to them! Our four drivers literally keep our wheels turning every day. They ensure everyone is greeted with a friendly face, a smooth journey, and feels safe and supported while travelling.

Their role goes far beyond just driving. They are responsible for the safety of the vehicle, using their specific training and knowledge, as well as being a calm and reassuring presence for our passengers.

👋💙It's our pleasure to introduce you to some of our regular passengers as part of Community Transport Week! Meet Liz, Maggie, and Eve. The friendship that they have formed while using our transport service has been wonderful to watch.

They were travelling individually, but regular trips to Castle Connections Lunch Club and out for essential shopping has formed a genuine social connection. They now intentionally book their journeys in as a group, so they can catch up, shop, and spend time together. This is exactly what community transport is all about!

🗣Last week, our English Conversation Group gave their own presentations to share their interests. Each person had up to 5 minutes to speak independently about something they love. We heard about essential oils, sport, home cooking, martial arts, and the javelin! It was great to share with each other and build confidence in speaking English.

If you are learning English and want a fun and interactive group to come and practise, join us! You can bring your children. Free.
