An Amazing Journey!
The SLR Greenway project team, along with additional Sheppey residents, have just completed a winter path section along Power Station Road.
This initiative builds on previously cleared areas, transforming a once boggy and difficult-to-navigate stretch of grass into an accessible path.
Over the weekend, approximately 60 tons of planning material were utilised, thanks to machinery provided by local businesses. With this work, access can now be enjoyed year-round.
In just over a day and a half, our dedicated team and local residents constructed an 80-meter section of the path. This included the installation of a staggered stationary barrier designed to manage access while restricting entry for quad bikes and electric scooters.
Many residents have raised concerns about the increasing use of these vehicles on the paths, which poses safety risks for pedestrians. To help address this, additional posts will be installed at various points along the route in the near future.
The project continues to garner significant support across Sheppey, promoting a safe and natural route for residents and children while also attracting walkers and cyclists from beyond the island.
In homage to our historic light railway, the group plans to create signs to express gratitude to the landowners for their support, as well as to highlight important landmarks, including the locations of the former railway stations.
This is a community-driven project, supported and carried out by the people of Sheppey, for the benefit of all!
