We’re delighted to welcome Jim Solomon, a Knole u3a member, who will present:

“The Cutty Sark – Past and Present”

Jim will explore the fascinating history of the Cutty Sark, the world’s most famous tea clipper, before sharing his own experiences of working on its major refurbishment and conservation project. Discover how this iconic ship has been preserved for future generations and transformed into one of London’s most engaging visitor attractions.

If you’ve ever wondered what life was like aboard this legendary vessel—or what it takes to conserve a national treasure—this promises to be a fascinating afternoon.

MOT2 enjoyed a lavender walk at Castle Farm followed by a pensioner’s special lunch at the King’s Head in Shoreham. A lovely day out in the sunshine with friends on St Swithins Day.

Golf – Wednesday every 3rd week of the month.

HOLE IN ONE!

After over 20 years of running a U3A golf group, we have at last had our first Hole in One.
Congratulations to Alison Wickham who holed out on the 17th at Chelsfield Lakes Golf Course.
Alison is a regular golfer at Poult Wood, and this is her first ACE. The group helped her to celebrate her success.

The Garden Group had a wonderful visit to Beth Chatto’s fabulous gardens near Colchester. Beth advocated ‘right plant, right place’. She famously converted the old carpark into the dry garden. All plants were watered when planted, and never watered again! Photos don’t do justice to the colour and variety of plants.

Our Members Out Together (MOT1) enjoyed a delicious three course lunch at The View, Tonbridge. This is part of West Kent College and it is all cooked and served by the students. Three courses for £14.95. Delicious food, fabulous venue and good company, thoroughly recommended!

Amblers 1 had a really enjoyable walk around Keston Ponds this week and took a detour to see the famous Wilberforce Oak and seat. This commemorates the spot where William Wilberforce and William Pitt is said to have discussed the abolition of slavery. We then enjoyed a really nice lunch in the Daisy Grey café on the common, thoroughly recommended.
We have around 9 walking groups for various abilities and of varying lengths all friendly and welcoming. Why not look on our website to see what we offer.
