Here, Heather shares the powerful impact our Creative Minds programme has had on her life.

After experiencing anxiety and struggling with confidence, taking part has helped her grow, connect with others and become more socially confident.

Heatherโ€™s story is a wonderful reminder that community programmes are about so much more than activities, they create friendships, build confidence and give people a real sense of belonging. ๐Ÿ’›

This Local Mind Week, we're celebrating the people behind West Kent Mind. ๐Ÿ’™
Meet Kay, our Creative Agents & Peer Coordinator.

A few years ago, Kay first joined a West Kent Mind Creative Minds programme while navigating bipolar disorder, a recent autism diagnosis and a difficult period in her life.
What started as one online creative group became so much more. Through Creative Minds, Engaging With Nature and peer mentoring, Kay rebuilt her confidence, reconnected with her creativity and found a sense of purpose and belonging.

Today, she's supporting others on their own wellbeing journeys as part of the West Kent Mind team.
"If there's one thing my journey has taught me, it's that change is possible, even when it feels out of reach. Recovery isn't always linear, but it does mean finding moments of connection, purpose and hope again."

Kay's story is a reminder that everyoneโ€™s mental health journey is different, and that with the right support, small steps can lead to life-changing opportunities.

As an independent local charity, West Kent Mind relies on fundraising, donations and community support to continue providing programmes like these. Your support helps create more stories like Kay's. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’™ It's Local Mind Week! ๐Ÿ’™

This week, we're celebrating the vital work of local Minds across the country.

But, here's the difficult truth.
A mental health problem can affect anyone, at any time. It doesn't wait for the "right moment", and neither should support.

In West Kent, around 38,500 adults are living with a mental health problem. 1 in 5 children and young people are now experiencing mental health problems and in West Kent they wait on average of 10 weeks to get support, often longer.

Behind every statistic is a person.
๐Ÿ’™ A parent struggling to cope.
๐Ÿ’™ A child overwhelmed by their thoughts.
๐Ÿ’™ A neighbour facing loneliness.
๐Ÿ’™ A teenager unable to face school.
๐Ÿ’™ A colleague hiding their anxiety.
These aren't just numbers. They're our friends, families, neighbours and community right her in West Kent.

That's why West Kent Mind exists.

We're here to make sure people feel heard, understood, connected and supported before they reach crisis point. Because everyone deserves access to mental health support, and no one should face a mental health problem alone.

The summer holidays can bring excitement... but they can also bring overwhelm.
If you're a parent feeling that right now, you're not alone.

Suddenly everyone's at home, routines have changed, and the days can feel long. And, every family is different. Some have lots of support around them, some are juggling work, some are managing on their own, and others are facing other external pressures.

Social media can make it look as though everyone is filling every day with exciting trips, crafts and picture-perfect memories. But that's rarely the whole story.

The truth is, children don't need a packed schedule to have a happy summer.

๐Ÿ’™ It's okay if some days are slow.
๐Ÿ’™ It's okay if you're working.
๐Ÿ’™ It's okay if your child watches TV, plays in the garden, reads a book, or simply enjoys being at home.

The moments children often remember most are feeling safe, loved, listened to and spending time together, not how much was spent or how many activities were ticked off.

This summer, try to let go of the pressure to keep up with what everyone else appears to be doing.
Be kind to yourself. You're doing enough, and you are enough.๐Ÿ’™
