🌿 Practising Gratitude 🌿

Taking a moment to appreciate the good things in our lives can have a powerful impact on our wellbeing. Whether it's a kind word from a friend, a sunny day, a favourite cup of tea, or simply a moment of peace, gratitude helps us focus on the positives around us.

Today, why not pause and reflect on three things you're grateful for? They don't have to be big – often it's the little things that bring the greatest joy. πŸ’š

What are you grateful for today? Share in the comments below, we'd love to hear from you! 😊

πŸ’™ Volunteers' Week: Meet Our Volunteers

"Volunteering in mental health and wellbeing was a priority in my retirement plans, and West Kent Mind was the obvious choice.

From personal and professional experience, I know how important it is for people facing life's challenges to have opportunities to connect with others, learn new skills and take part in creative activities.

What I enjoy most is seeing people grow in confidence and share their talents and creativity. Every programme I've supported has been different, but each has been incredibly rewarding.

Volunteering has given me a real sense of purpose and the chance to support a cause I care deeply about."

Thank you to all our volunteers this Volunteers' Week. Your time and dedication make a difference every day. πŸ’™

πŸ’™ This Volunteers' Week, we've been asking our volunteers what volunteering means to them.

Their answers speak for themselves.

Behind every quote is someone who chose to give their time, skills and compassion to support mental health in West Kent.

Could this be your story next year?

Whether you have a few hours to spare or are looking for a new challenge, we'd love to hear from you. Volunteering is a chance to connect with others, learn new skills and make a genuine difference in your local community.

"Volunteering is not only about giving something back to the community; it is also about personal growth and belonging."

This Volunteers' Week we're shining a spotlight on some of our amazing volunteers. Here Jacqui shares how supporting West Kent Mind has helped build confidence, create meaningful connections, and reinforce the power of nature, creativity and community in supporting mental wellbeing.

From mindfulness sessions at Sevenoaks Nature Reserve to creative activities and gardening projects, discover how volunteering can make a difference for others, and for yourself.

Behind every conversation, every counselling session, every event, every referral, every email answered, and every young person or adult who feels heard, there is a volunteer making it possible πŸ’™

To our incredible volunteers: thank you.

To our client-facing volunteers, who give their time, compassion, and patience to support people through some of life’s hardest moments, thank you for showing up with kindness and care, again and again.

To our counsellors, who create safe spaces for healing, growth, and hope, thank you for the life-changing work you do every single day.

To our trustees and behind-the-scenes volunteers, who quietly keep everything moving forward through planning, guidance, fundraising, administration, and unwavering belief in our mission, thank you for being the foundation that allows this charity to continue supporting our community.

Small charities survive because of people who choose to give their time, energy, expertise, and hearts to others. We never take that for granted. Our volunteers are helping to change lives across West Kent, and we are endlessly grateful for every single one of you πŸ’™

Another incredible month of support from the TN card πŸ’™

Thanks to this continued partnership, in April alone we raised enough vital funds to provide two young people with 8 early intervention sessions each, giving them the space to be heard, alongside the tools, guidance, and confidence to better manage their mental health moving forward.

Every sign-up and share truly makes a difference. Thank you for helping us provide meaningful help to young people and adults when they need it most.

During Mental Health Awareness Week, we were delighted to spend time out in our community meeting the incredible people supporting Move for Mental Health πŸ’™

Jo-Jo shared how being part of the 'Girls Who Can' walking/running group has positively impacted both her physical and mental wellbeing.

β€œFor me, exercise is great for mental health and helps physically too. It means a lot to have that connection with others, being able to talk, feel involved, and just be around supportive people.

Thank you, Jo-Jo, for sharing your story and reminding us that movement, connection, and community can make such a difference.

As the weather gets warmer, it’s important to remember that some mental health medications can affect the body’s ability to regulate temperature and stay hydrated.

This can make people more sensitive to heat, increase the risk of overheating, and sometimes cause dizziness or fatigue more quickly.

Looking after your mental health also means looking after your physical wellbeing, especially during periods of warmer weather.

If you’re concerned about how medication may affect you in the heat, speak with your GP, pharmacist, or healthcare professional.

Please share and stay safeβ˜€οΈ
