An interesting FREE event coming up next month ๐ŸŒฑ

Join ecological economist Kate Raworth, author of Doughnut Economics, and Brother Phap Linh, Plum Village (Zen Buddhist) monk, for a free live event exploring the relationship between inner transformation and systems change. Sign up at: plumvillage.org/inner-change ๐Ÿ’ซ

Together, weโ€™ll explore questions such as:
๐Ÿชท What does it mean to create change from the inside out?
๐Ÿชท How can inner transformation strengthen our response to the polycrisis?
๐Ÿชท What could it look like to build systems rooted in interdependence, to help our personal, collective and planetary wellbeing thrive?

Whether youโ€™re an activist, educator, student, working in the climate sector, or simply somebody who cares about the Earth, youโ€™re invited to join us.

This event is inspired by the Zen and the Art of Saving the Planet (ZASP) online course, and is open both to those who are new to ZASP and those who have done the course. ๐Ÿซถ

An important campaign by Kent Wildlife Trust to avoid the loss of ancient woodland near Maidstone... ๐Ÿ’š

Oaken Wood update: where we are & where we're headed ๐Ÿ‘‡

As many of you will be aware, Kent County Council (KCC) is progressing with their draft Kent Mineral Sites Plan which continues to allocate Oaken Wood, near Maidstone, for the extraction of hard rock. If quarried, the proposal would result in the direct loss of at least 41 hectares of Ancient Woodland.

Kent Wildlife Trust has been involved in campaigning against this destruction both behind the scenes and publicly since the Plan was launched. Last week, we contacted councillors ahead of the committee meeting to highlight the importance of ancient woodland, and attended the protest beforehand in solidarity with SAVE OAKEN WOOD!

๐Ÿšจ What's next? KCC is expected to launch a public consultation on the Kent Mineral Sites Plan which will run from the end of July to September and we need as many people as possible to respond. Your responses go directly to the Planning Inspectorate and can have a huge impact on informing their decision on whether the plan goes ahead.

Behind the scenes, we are working on resources that we hope will help you formulate your response.

๐Ÿ‘‰ In the meantime, please check out our campaign page and sign up to our Speak Up for Nature newsletter to be the first to hear about next steps: https://www.kentwildlifetrust.org.uk/campaigns/save-oaken-wood

Have you seen The Peopleโ€™s Emergency Briefing yet?

It's a 50-minute film presenting the latest evidence on climate and nature crises, featuring leading experts and public figures in the UK. Essential viewing if - like us - you believe the climate crisis isn't just an environmental problem, but a fundamental threat to society.

Huge thanks to Sevenoaks Town Council for organising a viewing last week, kindly hosted by The Stag Sevenoaks.

Find out about the film here: https://www.nebriefing.org/the-film

And sign the petition pressing the Government to hold a UK-wide briefing on climate and nature risks: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/767687

We're keen to hear whether there's demand for another viewing in Sevenoaks. Let us know in the comments below and/or email us at [email protected]

A 50-min film centred around the National Emergency Briefing. The frank facts, but also the huge opportunity if Government steps up and leads a WW2-scale response. Designed to be watched by communities together with their MP. Due for release 7th April.

28/06/2026

Next SCAN meeting takes place online on WED 8 JULY, 8:00-9:30pm.

All welcome! Please email [email protected] for more details ๐Ÿ™‚๐ŸŒฑ
