Mental Health Awareness Week | Survivors Unite

Mental health isn’t something separate from life. It is life. And for a lot of people, it’s something they’re managing quietly every day while still showing up, still functioning, still getting through it.

Mental Health Awareness Week is run by https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk, and this year’s theme is “Taking Action”. Not in a big or performative way, but in the small, real ways that actually make a difference day to day.

That can mean noticing when someone’s not quite themselves. Checking in properly, not just as a throwaway question. It can mean changing how we respond when someone says they’re not okay, instead of brushing it past. It can also mean pushing for support that actually fits people’s lives, not the other way around.

This week is also a reminder of what so many already know from experience...you don’t always know what someone is carrying. Some people are surviving things they’ve never said out loud. Others are still trying to find the words.

Survival doesn’t always look strong. Sometimes it looks like hiding away in the house, just getting through the day, not replying to messages, or starting again after everything fell apart. There isn’t one way it’s meant to look.

What matters is that people aren’t judged for struggling. That they’re listened to properly. That they’re taken seriously the first time they say they’re not okay.

We don’t need perfect words or big statements. We just need a bit more honesty, people who are willing to listen, and flexibility in how support is offered and received.

🎉 Survivors Unite have been awarded £250,000 over the next five years from The National Lottery Fairer Life Chances fund. This funding brings a sense of stability that we have been working towards for a long time. We are grateful to the lottery for their continued support and really listening to charities when they say they need longer term funding.

This means we can continue supporting those who need it. But while this is a huge milestone, there’s always work to do to raise funds to fill gaps and ensure the service can meet demand. Onwards and upwards!

Survivors Unite is really just getting started raising funds through JustGiving 💜

However it truly means the world to us that such lovely people want to raise funds on our behalf. The support, kindness, and belief in what we’re achieving is incredibly humbling.

We’ve chosen to use JustGiving as a trusted and transparent way for people to support our work and this is only the beginning for us.

Every donation, every fundraiser, every share and word of encouragement helps us grow and reach more people who need support.

Thank you to everyone standing with us and helping us take these first important steps 🌱💜

Thank you so much to everyone who donated and/or bought in support of our Survivors Unite Christmas Pop-Up Shop.

Donated items were sold in the shop, placed in our tombola, or given as prizes in our raffle. The funds raised will go directly towards supporting survivors through our work.

We are incredibly grateful for the support from the local community. Thank you for standing with survivors and supporting us.

Raffle winners have all now been called!

💬 We’re building a Survivors Unite App – and we’d love your input...

We’re in the early stages of developing a Survivors App, designed with survivors, not just for them.

If you were using an app like this, what would you like it to include?

That could be:
⮕ Support or resources
⮕ Practical tools (mood surveys, mediation sessions etc.)
⮕ Community services
⮕ Information you wish you’d had earlier
⮕ Or something completely different

There are no right or wrong answers — even small ideas help. If you prefer can email us at [email protected], that’s absolutely fine too.

Thank you for helping us shape something that really matters 💚

We've has a successful week with news of a 2 year grant from the Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund, allocated by Borders Community Action and a small grant from the Act for Change to prep our garden in February. We're ever grateful to organisations who read our applications and consider funding the work we do.
