This week we celebrate National Volunteers week across the Royal Air Force Air Cadets. We would like to take this time to say a huge thank you to all of our volunteers of our at 2132 (Sedgley) Squadron and the wider organisation.

Our volunteers not only keep the squadron operational and open for all of our cadets but they also give up their own time to the benefit of our cadets. Whether that is attending courses with cadets such as flying, gaining qualifications to deliver to our cadets or much more. This is our time to say a huge thank you.

A handful of our staff members are pictured below to show our appreciation.
- Flt Lt G.Elwell (Sqn OIC)
- Sgt G.Hancox (Sqn WO)
- CI S.Brown (Sqn Adj)
- CI G.Price (Sqn Training Officer)
- CI J.Ingram
- CI B.Blaze
- CI K.Williams
- CI A.Farrant
- Flt Lt J.Mann (Service Instructor)
But that’s definitely not all of our amazing team. Thank you to the civilian committee and Chaplain/Padre for all of your continued support. The rest of our Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (Uniformed and Civilian).

Thank you for all of your support and dedication you provide for our cadets. This allows us to give them the opportunity to experience activities and events you can’t anywhere else, see the RAF and the wider HM Armed Forces from a different
perspective, gain knowledge which could assist them with a career within the Armed Forces or RAF and more.

So for the final time a huge thank you for everything you do for our Squadron.

This weekend Flt Lt Elwell and CWO Paskin attended Staffordshire Wings Easter Swynnerton Multi-Activity Weekend. Over the weekend they ran Initiative Tasks which included designing and creating rockets with a competitive aspect of the following criteria; the greatest height of the rocket, greatest distance the rocket travelled, best designed, most creative and the most spins completed mid flight. Other activities such as using light weight materials (elastic bands, lollipop sticks) to create a protective cage for an egg to be thrown approximately 10 feet away and reaching a height of 5 feet, using giant jenga blocks to create a tower which houses an egg at the peak and more STEM projects.

The benefit of all of these activities is the need for further skills to be used (leadership, creativity, intelligence, awareness etc). Thank you to all the staff that attended this weekend from all across the wing who allowed this to happen. Thank you to Flt Lt Elwell for his creativity and dedication to plan, create and risk assess all of these activities. Thank you to CWO Paskin as well as the other supportive DS Cadets.

As we ended last night, we had to say a heartfelt goodbye to Flt Sgt Patel, who has been an important part of our squadron.
She may have not started her cadet journey with us, but she certainly made a lasting impact during her time here. Her leadership, dedication, and willingness to support others have made her a great role model for many of our cadets.
Thank you for everything you’ve done for the squadron. We wish you all the best for the future and know you’ll go on to achieve great things. Once a cadet, always a cadet. ✈️💙

This weekend CWO Paskin, Sgt James and Sgt Ince all attended the Birmingham International Tattoo at bp Pulse Live, NEC Birmingham. Over the weekend they carried out ceremonial duties representing the Royal Air Force Air Cadets as well as the British Cadet Forces as a whole. CWO Paskin was representing the RAFAC by being one of the guards of the Wreath of Respect at the front of the parade. Sgt James held our squadron banner. And Sgt Ince was a flag waver of the commonwealth countries as well as being a part of the marching contingent on the arena floor.

CWO Paskin said “The Birmingham International Tattoo is an amazing experience for all, whether you like drill or not there is a role for everyone to take part in. The thrill of being on the arena floor with thousands of members of public watching and supporting you is a feeling like no other. I would highly recommend everyone to bid for a place every year this event becomes available.”

Well done to all that took part you should all be very proud of yourselves!

On the 8th of February, we proudly took part in our first parade of the year, celebrating ATC Sunday and the 85th Anniversary. It was a fantastic way to begin the year, marking such a significant milestone with pride and professionalism.

It was especially great to see many cadets turn out and represent the squadron so well. Your commitment, smart turnout, and enthusiasm truly set the standard for the year ahead. Here’s to many more successful events in 2026!
