29/05/2026

Dear Valued Supporters of Seaham Sea Cadets,

NOTICE OF, AND INVITATION TO, SEAHAM SEA CADETS ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM), TO BE HELD AT TS SEAHAM, 26 NORTH TERRACE, SEAHAM, SR7 7EU, AT 1900 (7.00PM) ON MON 08 JUN 26

You are cordially invited to Seaham Sea Cadets Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held at Seaham Sea Cadets HQ (TS SEAHAM) at 1900hrs on Mon 08 Jun 26. All Unit ‘members’, which includes all Unit staff and parents/carers of Cadets, are especially encouraged to attend and vote. Additionally, wider members of, and supporters from, our local communities and affiliated organisations will be very warmly greeted. Everyone is welcome to support your local Sea Cadets!

On the night, you will get to hear about the Seaham 'Sea Cadets Experience', the progress we have made over the last 12 months, and our aspirations and targets for the year (and years) ahead. We will also be formally promoting some of our cadets and presenting well-earned badges for their accomplishments. Refreshments will be provided.

A screenshot of the calling notice/invitation, containing all the essential information for the AGM meeting, is attached, together with a separate agenda. If you wish to submit ‘Any Other Business’, please inform me by 2359hrs Thu 04 Jun 26.

After over 5 1/2 years and 6 AGMs, this meeting will be my final act as Chairman as I necessarily stand down in line with our constitution. It has been a true privilege and honour to lead our wonderful charity, and I now look forward to imminently handing over the reins to a new Chair and Unit Management Team who will take Seaham Sea Cadets to ever greater heights.

To that end, we are appealing to all and any supporters to strongly consider joining our Unit Management Team (UMT) as one of our Trustees at our AGM. In accordance with charity law and regulations, we must fill the constitutional roles of Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary, but there are also roles in Fundraising, Facilities, Health and Safety, and as a general Trustee, which you could contribute to. The UMT, as our Charity's Board of Trustees, is the key governance, administrative, and fundraising body which keep the charity which is Seaham Sea Cadets running and delivering the excellent Sea Cadets experience to our local young people, contributing so much to our local communities. Without an effective UMT in place, the Unit and its cadet activity is at risk.

The main UMT roles require approximately 5-15 hours effort per month, mostly flexible, with mentoring available and training provided. It is possible for some roles to be split between a few individuals in order to reduce time commitments. Any small amount of time that can be dedicated to these roles will make a real impact on the programme we are able to offer our cadets, and we therefore hope you can support us in maintaining the sustainability of our unit. If you would like to know more, discuss, or visit, please get in touch.

If you are interested and wish to become a Trustee and member of the Unit Management Team (UMT), a screenshot of the nomination form is attached. If you can, please complete your personal details in the top boxes of the form and return to me at [email protected] by 2359hrs Thu 04 Jun 26. Do not worry about having the Proposer and Seconder details of the form completed at this stage; the current UMT can arrange this with you immediately before the meeting. Alternatively, you can just come along to the AGM and put yourself forward on the night.

I look forward to welcoming you to Seaham Sea Cadets on the day. Please arrive from 1845hrs. In the meantime, if you have any questions or require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me via my details in the signature block below.

Yours Aye,

Mark

We would like to say a huge BZ (Royal Navy Term aka 'Jack Speak' for 'Job well done') to our new Officer-in-Charge, PPO Jo Walker, for securing £2000 towards our ongoing costs, it was her first grant application in post too! 👏🎉

A huge thank you to Seaham Town Council for providing the grant and their ongoing support to the community. 🫶

⚓️Seaham Sea Cadets is an independent charity which means we need to raise all of our own funds to pay for everything, so we are extremely grateful for this support 💙

Furthermore, we are an entirely volunteer-run organisation. No one gets paid for the support, time, and dedication they give to the Cadets and the Unit.
But we love it! ❤️
There is so much reward in seeing the youths of Seaham and the surrounding areas grow and learn new skills and thrive 😁

But we need more volunteers 🙏

There are loads of roles and ways to help at Sea Cadets, both uniformed and non-uniformed.
Whether you have skills and experience in admin, finance, or governance; cookery, engineering or waterborne activities; or customer service, fund-raising, or driving a minibus; or just want to help out, there are ways you can be involved.
It doesn't matter if you have a lot of time to spare or just a little, we would love to hear from you

If you'd like to help out, or get more information, please complete the Volunteer Expression of Interest form at the link below and we will get back to you.

[Please note you must be 18 or over to volunteer 🔞]
