In some parts of the world there are annual ceremonies that predate our known religious institutions. Many were symbolic of fertility and often reenact a scene of mythic proportions, such as the killing/death of a god and a new one installed. Examples of this can be seen typically in romance, occidental beliefs, like the Eleusinian Mysteries or Hathor Festival.
Inasmuch as they represent the deity/hero, it is not the case. There is no reincarnation, the honour is simply a tradition. However, as in ancient PIE beliefs, they are only god by being an avatar of Brahman as Atman, as essentially we all are.
Such traditions as the Kumari Bride, even Karmapa and Dalai Lama are falsely promoting reincarnation. It was the invasion of Genghis Khan and his empire that caused the region to be clever and avoid destruction by claiming that the priesthood could discern his heir, way beyond Khan's lifetime. This very clever idea stopped Kublai Khan from invading, and instead bestowing the title, Ocean of Wisdom, upon the then first 'Dalai Lama.'
The cosmos recycles, as we know, but each soul is unique and a portal through which the universe explores. We are the cosmos. We each are drops that make the ocean.
So, even though we may still enjoy the festivities of yesteryear and have ceremonies, be assured that there is only one of you and ever will be. People enjoy Holy days, as the bring people together in merriment, and the likes of the the Kumari Bride are great ways of unifying a community and allowing one 'to serve.' The ex-brides have their own support network and help the newly divorced wife adjust to normal life and personally, I like this idea of being special for a while, then part of something that traditionally has existed for millenia. And of course, it's a brilliant excuse for a party and holidays!
When one looks at it, these Holy days allow us to unite and celebrate, look back, look forward, give gifts and be present. It's a reminder that the cosmos celebrates, regardless of what we believe.
Being sought as a potential leader at the age of two years old, by the chance that the child picks the correct articles that the previous incumbent had, is not a way of ordaining anyone! A leader needs to be discerned and elected. The spiritual ceremonies maintain continuity throughout the passage of time, forwarding history to new generations, which is essentially for posterity. Yet believing you are a specific deity or hero, is merely delusion. We are all the universe. You are the cosmos, God. We all have equal share of identity within the church of universe. We each are special.
So enjoy being the bride, enjoy the festivities, enjoy Halloween, Christmas, Diwali, Hanukkah, Eid, Easter, but don't delude yourself in being a god or hero - realise that we all are the cosmos. We all are God.
