National Volunteers’ Week

As a charity organisation managed, crewed, and supported entirely by volunteers, we would like to take this opportunity to thank every one of them for their hard work, dedication, and commitment.

From our operational crews and launch teams to fundraisers, trustees, maintenance volunteers, and all those working behind the scenes, each person plays a vital role in keeping our service running.

Without our volunteers, there simply would be no Sea Palling Independent Lifeboat.

Thank you for everything you do to help keep our community and visitors safe.

Paged 14:20 – 2 Persons in Water

Our crew were paged at 14:20 whilst preparing for service to reports of two persons in the water.

Our ILB was immediately launched to assist RNLI Lifeguards already on scene. The casualties were safely returned to shore in good spirits.

Whilst on scene, the ILB was diverted to assist a young male in an inflatable ring who was being blown offshore. The casualty was safely returned to shore and reunited with his family.

A busy afternoon for the crew, with a positive outcome for all involved.

Paged 13:18 – 2 Persons in Water (Rip Current)

Our crew were paged at 13:18 to reports of two persons in the water caught in a rip current at the north end of Sea Palling.

Our ILB was launched and assisted alongside RNLI Lifeguards already on scene. The casualties were safely returned to shore by the lifeguards, at which point our ILB was stood down by Humber Coastguard.

A good multi-agency response resulting in a safe outcome for all involved.

Today the Crew received a full and detailed briefing on the beaching procedure for our Lifeboat, Canon Portal.

This procedure would only ever be used in an emergency situation, or when severe weather conditions make it impossible to safely recover the boat onto the trailer.

The training covered the safe approach, crew positioning, communication and recovery considerations required when carrying out a controlled beaching operation.

Ongoing training and preparation such as this ensures our volunteer crew remain ready to respond safely and effectively in challenging conditions.

Recently, the crew were briefed on the safe and correct use of emergency flares.
This forms part of the ongoing training and development of our volunteers. Due to the cost of flares, these practical exercises are typically carried out when they are approaching their expiry date, and with the permission of UK Coastguard

Our crew recently undertook training focused on the medivac of a casualty from the rocks at Sea Palling. For exercise purposes, the casualty was simulated as having sustained a fall resulting in suspected back injuries.

Both of our vessels were deployed to the incident, working in coordination to safely and effectively extract the casualty using a Savour Tactical Rescue Stretcher and a floating Ferno stretcher.

Regular training of this nature is essential, ensuring both experienced and new crew members maintain and develop the skills required to carry out complex rescues in challenging environments.

Do you have time in your life for a new challenge?

Our volunteer recruitment is always open, and we’re looking for dedicated individuals to join the team. Whether you’re after a new skillset, teamwork, or the chance to make a real difference — we’d love to hear from you.

We are just saying thank you

It feels like only moments ago we were sitting in the control room overlooking Sea Palling, ready for the start of the Summer season. What a fantastic season it turned out to be!

Our volunteers had a busy few months – from taskings by HM Coastguard, to the unveiling of the new signage at the Lifeboat Tavern, to an incredible Lifeboat Day, all capped off with the most important achievement of all: a life saved.

As the year has progressed our time is spent with crew recruitment, our continued programme of training. This year we’ve been able to strengthen our crew with new Helms, new boat crew, new shore crew and launch vehicle drivers.
On top of that all operational crew committed many hours to a level 3 First Aid course.
None of which we could have done without the kind and generous donations we receive, as an independent Lifeboat Charity, we simply can’t do what we do without you.

So as we officially sign off the 2025, we’d like to thank you all for your continued support. Stay safe – and we’ll catch up with you again soon in 2026

Happy New Year
