📢 LOCAL GOVERNMENT PAY 2026 UPDATE

Local government unions have formally rejected the 2026 pay offer of 3.3% and are calling for meaningful negotiations with employers. The joint position has been signed by all three unions – UNISON, Unite and GMB.

UNISON members will now be balloted for strike action from 9 July.

The unions have made clear that the offer fails to address the significant loss in pay suffered by local government workers over many years and are urging employers to return to the negotiating table as a matter of urgency.

We encourage all members to stay informed and take part in the upcoming ballot.

You can read the full joint letter below.

This week, once again, staff represented by UNISON stood outside St Bernadette’s School taking strike action in their fight for fair pay and better working conditions.

This isn’t something they take lightly. These are dedicated staff who care deeply about the children they support every single day—but they continue to be pushed to a point where standing together is the only way to be heard.

The fact that action has had to take place again shows just how important this issue is. School support staff are essential to the running of our schools, yet many still face low pay and increasing demands.

We stand firmly with everyone involved. ✊

Please continue to show your support—share this message, speak up, and help raise awareness. Real change only happens when people come together.

Today marks one whole year since our wonderful Branch Secretary, Vicky Rowland, passed away.

She is missed more than words can say. Vicky was truly one of those rare people you can never forget, her kindness, strength and dedication left a lasting mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

She lived her life helping others, always striving to make things better for those around her. Whether through her work, her support, or simply the way she cared, she made a real difference in so many lives, including ours.

She will always remain a part of our branch and will always be in our hearts 💜

It’s been a busy day for the branch today, with UNISON also in attendance at St Mary’s School in Brigg, standing in solidarity with staff taking action for fair pay, respect, and better working conditions.

It was a strong and positive show of support, with colleagues coming together to back those making their voices heard. ✊

Today, staff represented by UNISON gathered outside St Bernadette’s School to stand up for fair pay, respect, and better conditions for those who support our children every day.

These hardworking individuals play a vital role in our schools - helping pupils learn, grow, and feel safe. Yet many are facing increasing pressures, low pay, and a lack of recognition for the essential work they do. This strike is about making their voices heard and securing the support they truly deserve.

We stand in solidarity with all those taking action today. ✊

Please show your support—whether that’s sharing this message, speaking up, or simply taking a moment to understand why this matters. Strong schools need supported staff, and supported staff mean better outcomes for our children.
