Please Help Create A Really Effective ESG Framework For The NC500

With support from HIE and Highland Council, North Coast 500 Ltd has commissioned BiGGAR Economics to create an independent ESG Framework to help us understand the current impacts of the NC500 and guide future action.

We need YOUR help to ensure that the study reflects real experiences across the region.

1. If you live or run a business in the North Highlands, please complete the relevant survey based on your own, personal experiences.

• Business Survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BusinessesSurveyNC500

• Resident Survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ResidentSurveyNC500

2. Please share these links with anyone you know who fits the criteria.
The surveys close on Christmas Eve.

The NC500 has brought major economic benefits, but infrastructure and management problems, exacerbated by Covid and increased campervan travel, have placed significant pressures on communities and the environment.

The ESG Framework, which is being produced at arm’s length by BiGGAR Economics, will provide a clear picture of what is working, what isn’t, and what actions NC500 Ltd should take to improve its impact. It is a warts-and-all assessment.

It will be graphics-led rather than wordy, publicly available, and we hope that it will support better collaboration between stakeholders across the North Highlands. Resources are very limited and we need to work better together to get the biggest bangs for our bucks.

More on it here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8e91e82zneo

Please take part and help shape a sustainable future for the North Highlands.

END

I hope that you can help – and best wishes,

David

So what's happening with Scourie Men's Shed.

We held a meeting in the village hall a few weeks ago to gauge interest. Six people turned up, and after a presentation by Ross, we held a lengthy question and answer session discussing what could and couldn't be achieved.

We decided to approach the Community Council and ask for funding from the Maldie Burn fund to cover our initial start-up costs. We decided to join the Scottish Men's Sheds association and register Scourie Men's Shed, this cost £25, and will allow us to apply for funding from SMSA to allow us to visit other sheds to see them in operation. The plan is to get a group together and hire a mini bus, or community car depending on numbers.

The welcome pack from SMSA arrived today, if anyone wants to browse through it, you are welcome. Details about Men's Sheds can be found online at https://scottishmsa.org.uk/ where you can join as an individual member for free. This will give you general ideas and descriptions of what Men's Sheds are about.

One thing we do have to sort out before we can progress further is to get a committee together of three or four people. Three names are needed to set up a bank account, and we will have to register as a charity before we can start applying for funding.. Volunteers welcome..!

Pete.

Press Release – Highland Council Housing Need & Demand Survey
The Highland Council has launched a survey about the housing needs and future
aspirations of local households. The survey will allow the Council to better
understand the housing circumstances and needs of local households so that a good
range of housing options can be delivered in the future. The results will help the
Council plan for new housing and housing services, making sure the needs of all
residents and communities are met.
Housing & Property Committee Chair, Cllr Glynis Campbell Sinclair said: “The
Highland Council, as part of its commitment to meeting the ‘Highland Housing
Challenge’, encourages residents across Highland to compete the Highland Housing
Need & Demand Survey, this will ensure a robust and accurate data set is captured
for all types of housing need and not just Council/rental demand. To capture this as
accurately as possible, we need to speak to residents across Highland, of all ages
(over 16yrs old) and living in all types of housing, to identify what housing is needed
across Highland communities for the years ahead."
An online survey is open to all Highland residents (over 16yrs old) and over 800
telephone interviews will be carried out with households across the area. The survey
is being carried out by a professional market research company, Research
Resource.
Telephone interviews will commence on 8th September 2025 and will continue over a
period of 10 weeks.
The survey is open to anyone over the age of 16 years old to complete, and all
survey responses will be for research purposes only and it will not be possible to
identify individual residents from the responses. Research Resource are registered
under the Data Protection Act and all responses will be completely confidential.
