Through physically demanding expeditions that are based on the history of the Royal Yorkshire Regiment and its antecedent cap badges, we raise funds for organisations that support the welfare of our colleagues and their families.

An excellent evening last night at the Green Howards Museum to listen to Robert Dransfield tell the story of his great uncle Second Lieutenant Donald Simpson Bell VC.

Donald was a Harrogate born Yorkshire Warrior of the Green Howards who fell during the battle of the Somme in France and whose life and death had a significant impact on his family and community.

The talk was at times emotional and added an incredible human touch to Donald's story.

Stay tuned for an announcement on our next challenge which will be focused on Second Lieutenant Donald Simpson Bell VC and the Green Howards in the Somme.

We have made a decision recently about the distribution of our current year-long fundraiser. We initially penned in 5% for the Museum, 5% for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the remaining going to the Royal Yorkshire Regiment Charitable Trust. However, the Museum and its staff and volunteers have been incredible in supporting the Hard Routine in the last year and have went out of their way to help us network and marry up our efforts. As such, the Museum will now receive 15% of what we make this year, with the CWWGC still receiving 5% and the remainder going to the Charitable Trust.

If anyone wants to support the Green Howards Museum, sign up to be a friend and receive free entry for the year, magazines and discounts at the museum store.

Thanks again to everyone that took part in the The Lyke Wake Walk event with us on Saturday, what a grueller it was for everyone. However, I learned earlier that the youngest person to finish the LWW was 6 and the quickest anyone has done it in is under 5 hours. Not normal.

Should anyone who took part want to, you are now entitled to get a badge and certificate for completing the LWW. I'm sure all the money from this online store is used on keeping the route maintained and popular - https://lykewake.org/shop/

It's hard to say exactly how much we've had put into the pot due to the LWW because its a continuation of previous donations and it will remain open until next year. However, in the last week alone, we've jumped up nearly £700, taking us to £2150 and its been easy a grand in a couple of weeks. All for the The Royal Yorkshire Regiment Charitable Trust, the Green Howards Museum and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Our aim is to arrive at £20,000 by next April as we have several other events in the pipeline, including Armed Forces Day, some collaboration efforts with the museum and possibly another Hard Routine trek into foreign lands before the year is out. Not to mention Norway next April, bringing this accumulated effort to a close. Watch this space.

Also, big thanks to Dean Campbell who's raised £150 for us doing football cards. Round of applause, what a lad!

Mission complete. The team are all absolutely hooped from both the walk and the minimum sleep the night before. Everyone battled through and it was a great effort from all. Thanks for the donations and support.

Never again...again.

First pit stop done. Sore feet rectified with zinc tape and scoff on board, excess kit binned onto support wagon. Bugs everywhere. So far so good.
