Thank you Redcar Kite Festival! Thank you Kirkleatham Museum & Grounds! Thank you Expedition Dinosaur! Thank you to all our exhibitors and traders! Thank you to our wonderful volunteers! Thank you to The Palaeontological Association! And thanks to everyone who came along for a weekend of palaeontolo-joy!

There were polished pyritic ammonites, there were parading peacocks, there were stegosaur pizzas, and most importantly there were hundreds of people, young and old, from just round the corner and many miles away, coming together to Enjoy Redcar & Cleveland and learn about the Earth.

This corner of north-east England is a very special place, and we are delighted to have been part of another terrific event.

Polish off your Redcar Kite Festival weekend with a visit to YFF presents Redcar Rocks at Kirkleatham Museum!

Our fab Earth Science Outreach UK volunteer team will be delivering the ever-popular fossil-polishing activity. Buy your fossil (all monies raised go straight to our charity), heed the instructions, and get polishing!

It normally takes around half-an-hour to achieve a splendid finish, and it's a somewhat wet and muddy task. But at the end of it, you'll have a super souvenir to take home. And if you've selected a coprolite, you'll be able to go home and tell everyone "you CAN polish a turd!"

We'll be at Kirkleatham Museum 10.30am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday, with a top team of exhibitors, and all manner of marvellous minerals, remarkable rocks and fabulous fossils to enjoy.

Join us at Kirkleatham Museum tomorrow and Sunday, 10.30am to 4pm!

IMPORTANT NOTICE - REDCAR VENUE CHANGE

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had to relocate our Redcar Kite Festival fossil workshops and geology activities for this weekend. We will now be YFF presents Redcar Rocks at Kirkleatham Museum!

Enormous thanks to our friends at Expedition Dinosaur, Kirkleatham Museum & Grounds and Enjoy Redcar & Cleveland for enabling us to relocate to such a wonderful venue at such short notice. And to The Palaeontological Association, whose financial generosity enables our volunteers to take part.

We're delighted to be joined by a fab array of fossil friends, including The Yorkshire Fossil Hunter, British Geological Survey, University of Leeds, and The Rock Showman. There will be fossil polishing activities with the Earth Science Outreach UK team, Rob Taylor's amazing Yorkshire dinosaur footprints, microscopic magic with Geology Johnson, Whitby Snakestones with The Viking Fossil Hunter, and plenty more.

We'll be in the museum pavilion from 10.30am to 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday, there's no charge to attend, and visitors will be also able to enjoy free entry to Expedition Dinosaur's brilliant exhibition, Dinosaurs, Monsters and Lost Worlds.

And KiteFest parking is at Kirkleatham, so why not make it a Jurassic Park & Ride...?

We’re moving locations to bring you our event this weekend! ➡️

Now we’re combining with Kirkleatham Museum & Grounds and the Roarsome Expedition Dinosaur exhibition to bring a museum display together with our team of scientists and creatives.

British Geological Survey
University of Leeds
The Yorkshire Fossil Hunter
Rob Taylor, Yorkshire Dinosaur Footprints & Crafts
Geology Johnson
Whitby Snakestones
The Rock Showman
Fossiliam

And a bunch of other sciencey people eager to share their worlds of fossils, nature, geology and deep time!

Sadly, due to the high winds, the infrastructure that we need can’t be installed at Majuba, but it’s going to be great at the Museum 1030-4pm both days.

Our fossil families now get a chance to visit two events with direct connection via the (Jurassic) Park and Ride 🦖🚗

UPDATE - FRIDAY JUNE 5TH
Unfortunately we've had to cancel our KiteFest fossil safaris this weekend. We are relocating to Kirkleatham Museum and aren't able to get our team down to the beach.

HOWEVER, we're delighted that our Redcar Kite Festival fossil activities this weekend will still feature the one and only Dr Brooke Johnson!

Brooke is a geologist and science communicator from Middlesbrough, known to his thousands of online followers as Geology Johnson. When it comes to the fossils and geology of Redcar, you could not be in better hands. As a taster, here's the video Brooke made for us ahead of the festival last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOP7sufXDEY

We will be offering Redcar fossil safaris later in the summer - keep an eye on https://yorkshirecoast.rocks/guided-tours/
