Disappointed to report that our picnic bench has vanished from the Raincliffe Gates car park. It was there one minute and gone the next.
We can only assume someone decided it looked better in their own garden than it did in the public space. It is a real shame and very disappointing for everyone who enjoyed using it. If anyone in the community has any information, we’d truly appreciate you reaching out.

Thank You for a Beautiful Afternoon in the Woods 💚

We want to say a huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday for our wellness and music afternoon in Raincliffe Woods.

It was incredibly moving to see our community come together to connect, take care of their well-being, and celebrate the memory of our much-loved colleague, Claire.

A Special Thanks
To The Blowins: Thank you for providing such a beautiful, moving soundtrack to our afternoon. Your music brought a wonderful atmosphere to the trees.

To Everyone Who Donated: Your generosity is deeply appreciated and means so much to all of us.

Claire’s Memorial Bench
For those who couldn't make it—or for those who want to revisit the spot—we are so proud to share these pictures of Claire’s memorial bench.

"Sit, reflect & smile."

This bench now stands as a permanent part of the woods. It is a space for anyone to take a moment out of their day, sit quietly in nature, and find a bit of peace. We hope you will visit it next time you are walking through Raincliffe.

Community, Music & Well-Being: An Afternoon in Raincliffe Woods

📅 Event Details
Date: Saturday, May 30th
Time: 2:00 PM (14:00)
Starting Locations: Raincliffe Gate Car Park or Newgate Foot Car Park
What’s Happening?
Well-Being Activities: Take some time out to ground yourself, breathe in the woodland air, and enjoy gentle activities designed to boost your mental and physical health.
A Special Acoustic Performance: We are incredibly touched to welcome local group The Blowins, who have generously offered to play a free acoustic gig in the woods.
In Memory of Claire Rodway This acoustic performance is dedicated to the memory of our much-loved colleague, Claire Rodway. While the gig is free to attend, we will be welcoming donations at the event in her honor.
🚶‍♂️ Step Into Well-Being (A Note on Getting Here)
In the spirit of well-being—and because our woodland car parks have very limited space!—we are asking attendees to leave the car behind if possible.
If you are able, please consider walking up to the woods from town or utilising other nearby parking areas. Not only will this ensure we don't overcrowd the site, but it’s also the perfect way to kickstart your afternoon of wellness with some extra steps in nature.
We can’t wait to see you there!

We were delighted to host students from Coventry University - Scarborough Campus last week, who are studying Health & Social Care and begining a new module on Healthy Environments.
We met at Throxenby Mere our gateway to the North York Moors National Park and discussed access to the woodlands and barriers to those without their own transport. Walking from the Mere we experienced the difficulties where footpaths are boggy and blocked by fallen trees. We were also able to discuss the difficulties of maintaining such an environment and the different pressures user can create. Balancing activities against the sensitive environment. The visit provided real life examples of the challenges delivering wellbeing experiences, maintaining a safe environment and the complex relationships that support natural woodlands.
We look forward to hosting similar groups in the future.

A huge shoutout to our incredible volunteers today! 🌱

They’ve been busy along the middle track planting elm saplings. To give the saplings the best start, we’re reusing plastic guards from previous plantings.

Good morning everyone beautiful still morning in the woods. So we've taken to opportunity, before storm Benjamin arrives and closes safe access to the woods down, to make a start on an important new project!

There used to be a wheelchair accessible path leading from Raincliffe gate into the woods. This fell into disrepair over the last 20 years. We've now made a decision to revitalise it.
Starting by removing the dangerous and obstructive trees that have grown both through it and around it! So the winter tree felling season hss begun. Take extra care when moving around the woods.

To mark the start of Autumn. Were launching an important new project:
The 1000 Oaks for Raincliffe project.
As im sure you've noticed, its an excellent Mast (tree seed) year this year. So there lots of Acorns in the woods. We want to partner with schools, and others, across scarborough. To grow an extra 1000 Oaks- to replant throughout the woods and paths leading to them. Once they're big enough.

Obviously it all starts with little Acorns. From which mighty Oaks do grow! So we want everyone collecting Acorns as soon as possible. While theyre fresh (green)_ pop them.into pots with some soil to keep them moist. Thenead our Autumn newsletter for more detailed explanation of the project on the and how to participate!
