Good news for Saxilby!

Saxilby Public Recreation Ground Charity and Saxilby with Ingleby Parish Council have now signed a new 25‑year lease for the St Andrews Community Centre. This long‑term agreement means the parish council can continue providing much‑valued services for our community — including a library, room and bar hire, sports changing rooms, and the council office.

Just as importantly, the lease gives the charity the stability it needs to care for the recreation ground, protecting this much‑loved open space so that everyone in Saxilby and the hamlet of Hardwick can enjoy it for years to come.

This milestone also marks the completion of all six recreation ground leases put in place over the past 18 months:
• Council St Andrews Community Centre Lease
• Council Outdoor Lease (play areas, wheeled (skate) park, and the planned MUGA)
• Tennis Club Lease
• Bowls Club Lease
• Cricket Nets Lease
• Cricket Non‑Turf Pitch Lease

A huge thank you goes to our councillors, council officers, and charity trustees, who have worked tirelessly and professionally to deliver this package of agreements. Their commitment has shone through despite significant challenges, and their determination has ensured that the community’s facilities and green spaces are protected for the long term.

This is a real step forward for our community— strengthening services, safeguarding our open spaces, and investing in the future of Saxilby.

Current Condition of the Field

Users of the field may have observed that certain areas are somewhat boggy, with patches of standing water visible in several locations. This has affected the overall usability of the field.

Next Steps: Drainage Assessment

Once the ground has dried sufficiently, a series of drainage inspections will be carried out. The purpose of these inspections is to assess the condition of the existing drains and to identify any areas where improvements or replacements might be necessary.

Inspection Prioritisation

The initial focus will be on Sites 1 and 2, with drainage inspections and any required works commencing there first. The remaining sites will be addressed after the conclusion of the football season.

Work is being carried out on the Cricket Score Hut to make it safe and secure. The hut was built in the early 1970s on a piece of land purchased by the charity in 1970. Further work will be carried out across the spring and summer.
