1st Sawbridgeworth scouts is holding its 118th AGM. On Sunday 10th May at 2pm.

This year we are trying something different so we can engage more with the parents and guardians of our Scout Group.

On Sunday 10th May at 2pm we will be having a light-hearted quiz, followed by the AGM. We will then finish the quiz and conclude with a BBQ where you can meet and chat with all available group volunteers, whether that’s leaders and/ or parent helpers.

The Trustee Board members and leadership team will also be present to answer any questions you may have.

We expect the quiz and AGM to last approx. an hour, and the BBQ will continue after if you would like to stay and chat but no later than 5pm.

Free for Scout Group Members, inc. section children.

We are asking for a minimum recommended donation of £3 per non-member, this will include the quiz and either a beefburger, hotdog or vegetarian option and soft drinks. Additional burgers, hot dogs or vegetarian option will be available subject to availability.

Also, we are very short of leaders. This is currently impacting the amount of young people we can accept into 1st Sawbridgeworth Scout’s.

If you would like to help a particular session or section but do not know where to start, please have a chat with us.

Happy St George’s Day from 1st Sawbridgeworth Scout group!

Today we celebrate St George, the Patron Saint of England and of Scouting worldwide. For Scouts, St George’s Day is more than flags and dragons — it’s about courage, chivalry, and doing your best for others.

What St George’s Day means in Scouting
Our Patron Saint: Lord Baden-Powell chose St George as the patron saint of Scouts because his story reflects the Scout Law and Promise — courage in the face of difficulty, standing up for what’s right, and helping others.

Renewing the Promise: Across the UK, Scouts use St George’s Day to reaffirm their Scout Promise together. It’s a proud moment where Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders stand side-by-side to remember why we Scout.

Courage & Service: The legend of St George and the dragon reminds us to face challenges with bravery and to protect our communities — values we live out through weekly meetings, camps, and community service.

Sawbridgeworth St George’s Day Parade 2026 – Join Us!

We’ll be on parade to celebrate St George’s Day and show Scouting’s place in our town. Families, friends, and supporters are all welcome to line the route and support us on route!

Parade Details:
Who: Sawbridgeworth Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers & Leaders, organised with Sawbridgeworth Town Council.

We will also be joined by; Sawbridgeworth and High wych girl guides and the Sawbridgeworth air cadets.

When: Sunday 26th April, we will be meeting at 11:30 for parading at 12:00

Where: We will be meeting in Bell Street car park, we then will parade down bell street to finish at Great St Mary’s church where there is the option for you to join us inside.

Uniform: Full smart uniform, polished shoes, Group necker, and a smile! Bring a waterproof if it’s drizzly — St George wouldn’t let a bit of English weather stop him.

Parents/Guardians: Please arrive for 11:30 for registration with your section leader.

Duty to God & the King: Scouts of all faiths and no faith take part. The service is a time to reflect on the Promise, but there’s no obligation to take part in any religious element.

Whether you’re in uniform today or cheering from the side lines, take a moment to reflect on those values. They’re what make Scouting special!

See you on parade — let’s do St George proud!
