🌱🌳 A significant update for community tree nurseries last week was the announcement that the Community Tree Nursery Network (CTNC) will move from Fellowship of the Trees to The Tree Council from 5th June 2026.

This feels like a really positive step for the long-term future of the network and should help support the continuation of the valuable work already happening across the CTNC community — including Open Space Sessions, webinars and site visits.

Community tree nurseries play such an important role in local resilience, education, biodiversity and community involvement, so it is encouraging to see continued support for the network as it develops.

It will be interesting to see where the next stage of the CTNC journey leads.

Nice to receive an update from one of the Rowan trees from the recent giveaway 🌳
Great to see fresh new growth appearing and the tree settling in well.
These Rowans were all grown from locally collected seed through the Sandwich Community Tree Nursery and planted out across Sandwich and nearby villages earlier this year.

If anyone else has photos or updates from theirs, feel free to share them in the comments 🌱

🌱🌳There is something quite charming about the seed leaves (cotyledons) of a Beech tree (Fagus sylvatica).
Their shape hinting at the shape of the seed with very little resemblance to the shape of the true leaves to come.

More young trees heading out to our volunteer back garden growers 🌱🌳

A fresh batch being delivered, along with feed to help them over the coming months.

Great to see these being grown on locally — all part of building up future hedgerows and tree cover

Not the most glamorous stage… bear with the mostly soil shots at the moment 😄
But the guelder rose is starting to push through — first shoots appearing and things beginning to move.

Small beginnings, but these will grow on into future hedgerow plants.

A fantastic wildlife shrub, and a great addition to native hedgerows -exactly why we grow them!

Always great to get updates like this — some of the hawthorn now growing on with back garden growers 🌱🌳
Made it through the winter and now coming into their second year, with fresh growth starting to show.

Small trays like this will go on to become future hedgerow plants — grown locally from seed.

Thanks to everyone helping grow these on.
From seed to tree.

Spindle (Euonymus europaeus) — a great native for wildlife 🌿
Following on from the first seedlings starting to emerge, here’s a closer look at why this species is so valuable — from supporting pollinators and caterpillars to providing food for birds later in the year.

These are exactly the kind of locally grown plants that will go on to support wildlife across Sandwich and nearby villages.
