The Bells
A peal of six bells tuned to the key of G (tenor - 12cwt)

The 6 bells came originally from the Church of St John the Baptist Kirkheaton, near Huddersfield, who acquired a new ring of eight bells in 1988. After an overhaul, these bells were installed in St Clement's Tower, and rang out for the first time for Easter 1990. They then remained silent until their dedication on Sunday, May 20

th 1990, in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, as Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports. The bells were cast in 1818 by Thomas Mears at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry. They have retained their original inscriptions, although their Sandwich donors are commemorated on brass plaques fixed to the bellframe beside each appropriate bell. Practice
Wednesdays from 7:30pm to 8:30pm
Church services on Sundays from 10.00 am to 10.25am. Ringing for Weddings and other services

Events
Open Tower events are run occasionally (COVID permitting) where visitors are invited to climb the 52 steps into the tower and join us in the ringing room for an informational session and demonstration. The Ringing Team
Despite running a formal organisation (with named officers and an AGM) the ringers are a sociable bunch, and are this year introducing a calendar of social events. Next year, COVID permitting, we aim to reinstate visits to neighbouring towers. Both beginners and experienced ringers are warmly welcome, as are visiting groups from other towers. Please contact: Martin Thorley - Tower Captain 07968 065 123 before attending.

His Majesty The King will be proclaimed at the Accession Council this morning, 10th September. The St Clements Church Bells will ring out unmuffled, as is tradition, at 11:30 in celebration.

For the first time in over 70 years, the bells of St Clements Church Sandwich rang out fully muffled, as is the many centuries long tradition, following the death of our monarch. This turns the familiar peal into a more dull-sounding echo.
