πŸ”₯ Kent fire and rescue services advice during spells of hot weather πŸ‘‡

Crews believe a fire in last night was caused accidentally after an out-of-control bonfire spread to nearby trees.

During long spells of hot weather, our advice is to avoid lighting bonfires, as the ground can be extremely dry, which causes fires to start and spread quickly.

If you do choose to light a bonfire, make sure it's built well away from anything that could catch alight, such as greenery, overhanging branches or property.

And never leave a bonfire unattended. Once it has burnt out, dampen it down fully with water making sure that the fire is out and surroundings are made safe before leaving.

The UK faces growing risks from climate change and nature loss, from extreme weather and food insecurity to economic disruption and national security threats.
Yet the public has never been given a clear national briefing on the scale of these risks.

Whatever our individual views on the solutions, I think we all deserve access to clear, trusted, evidence-based information.

The petition calls for a UK-wide, prime-time, multi-channel televised public briefing, delivered by independent scientists and supported by the UK's Chief Scientific Adviser, so everyone can better understand the risks we face and what we can do, both together and individually, to prepare and respond.

If you agree, please consider signing the petition, sharing it with others, and writing to your MP to ask them to support this proposal.

The UK faces growing risks from climate and nature breakdown - from extreme weather to economic disruption and national security threats. Yet the public has never been given a clear national briefing on the scale of these risks. Government should hold an emergency briefing from leading experts.

Areas in east England face severe threats. Though this is likely to take many decades to play out, house prices will tumble long before areas have to be vacated.

But so many still aren't aware.

πŸ’§ Please put water out for wildlife. πŸ¦”πŸπŸ
In this hot weather, something as simple as a shallow dish of fresh water can make a real difference.
πŸ¦” Hedgehogs need it to stay hydrated.
🐭 Mice and other small mammals rely on it too. 🐝 Bees and other pollinators need a safe place to drinkβ€”adding a few pebbles or stones gives them somewhere to land without the risk of drowning.

A clean, shallow dish in a shady spot, topped up with fresh water each day, could help countless creatures visiting your garden.
Every drop counts. πŸ’šπŸŒΏ
