Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness Week is a gentle reminder that you don’t have to carry everything on your own. However you’re feeling right now, it matters and you are worthy of care, understanding, and support.

At Sandhurst Counselling Service, we are here to listen without judgement and walk alongside you at your own pace. This week, try to be a little kinder to yourself and reach out if you need to. You are not alone. 💚

Here to help
Two troubling trends are affecting many adults:
• An increasing number of adults are recognising either that they are neurodivergent (eg ADHD, Autism etc) or, just as challenging, have family members with these diagnoses.
• The share of NHS budget for mental health support is being cut for the third year in a row (see https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/about-us/news/uk-government-announces-reduction-share-nhs-spend);

That’s why at Sandhurst Counselling this month’s professional development theme has been Understanding Neurodiversity.

Neurodiversity is the idea that differences in how people’s brains work are a natural and valuable part of human diversity. Two of the most commonly identified neurodevelopmental conditions are Autism and ADHD. Neurodivergent individuals may experience the world differently in areas such as communication, sensory processing, attention, and emotional regulation.

In our work, we support neurodivergent clients by offering a safe space where they can feel heard, understood, and respected. We aim to create an environment where individuals can share their thoughts and experiences without judgement, recognising each person’s unique perspective and supporting them to build confidence, trust, and a sense of belonging.

To get a formal diagnosis you will probably need to join the ever-growing NHS waiting list.

To find your way in life valuing your unique capabilities we’re here to help. Contact us at Sandhurst Counselling (Sandhurstcounselling.org.uk) or call us on 07423 111947

Delighted today to have received £600 from the work of four choirs over Christmas; (Sandhurst Singers Community Choir, Sandhurst Chorale, Frimley Park Hospital Staff Choir, and The Sandhurst Military Wives Choir)

Thanking them we said: "Christmas is generally a joyful time, but for some, sadly, it can be one of deep loneliness and the New Year can bring great anxiety about the year ahead. We are here to support those who are struggling to find their way in troubled times, and your generosity will help us continue to do so.

Your tireless efforts, even singing on the cold dark evenings around Christmas is a testament to your care for those struggling with their mental health in Sandhurst."

If you are one of those struggling, do please get in touch at

Happy New Year??

I’m sure many of us have uttered these words more in hope than expectation! What if, in your heart, you fear that 2026 will be anything but “happy”? The pressures, stresses and anxiety can build up in us like a pressure cooker, and our overall mental and physical health suffers.

That’s why Sandhurst Counselling service is here to help. If you are feeling the need for some help and support then contact us by phone on 07423 111947 or email us at [email protected] and we will get back to you in 24 hours. We have capacity available at present (subject to finding times/days that work for you and for us).

Over the next few weeks we will be finalising our programme of Community Events to help you build resilience and understanding of your own mental health needs – both for yourself and for those you care about. You can become a “Friend of SCS” and find out more at our website

We can’t offer “Diagnosis” but we can help you live your life!

Today’s news contains two stories about the overload on the Health and Benefits systems from adults struggling with ADHD and related challenges. Locally Berkshire Healthcare Trust temporarily stopped accepting new referrals to their adult ADHD service from 1 December – the wait was already up to 8 YEARS!

Our Counsellors and Psychotherapists can help you understand what is going on for you, and find strategies to enable you to live fully. A diagnosis is a label, not a life-sentence.

We’re here to help you find your way in troubled times.

Here's some feedback from the first of our "Friends of SCS" events last Monday:
• Very informative and gave me ideas about how to deal with technology overload.
• It was informative, enriching and a very relaxing space
• Useful and helpful. Facilitator was welcoming. Participants were open and honest, happy to share
• Interesting and always good to share; none of us are on our own.
• It was good to be able to work with like minded people

We'll be arranging the events for next year over the next few weeks; follow us here to hear more.

One in eight young people aged 16-24 are not in employment, education or Training (NEET) according to reports today (see https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c62920440m2o) – and many are struggling with mental health challenges.
Meanwhile, the number of young people claiming Universal Credit health and employment support allowance has increased by more than 50% in the last five years – four in five young people that receive this allowance cite mental health reasons or a neurodevelopmental condition among declared health conditions.

Here in this area we cannot help everyone, but we can help anyone over 18 to address their mental health challenges – it’s not about “fixing you”, it’s about helping you find solutions and strategies that help you navigate life.

Did you know that Bracknell Forest has the highest level of Depression anywhere in Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire??

Just one of the fascinating insights we were able to share with Peter Swallow MP when he visited Sandhurst Counselling Service this week. It was a good conversation that recognises many of the mental health challenges we are here to address wherever you are in Bracknell Forest or the Sandhurst area.

If you are struggling with Depression, Anxiety or are simply “Stuck” do get in touch at http://sandhurstcounselling.org.uk or call us on 07423 111947. You are not alone, and we’re here to help you find your way in troubled times.
