Our Hellenge Hill nature reserve has been improved for people and wildlife, thanks to community grants and our amazing volunteers! 💚🌿💪

Habitats have been enhanced, with 580m of new hedge installed, and we've been able to reintroduce conservation grazing thanks to new boundary fences and gates, and the installation of a water supply.

We've also renovated two interpretation boards, to help visitors get to know more about the rich wildlife at the site.

Fern Elias-Stagg, Nature Reserves Officer at Avon Wildlife Trust, said: “We’d like to express our gratitude to the funders - Enovert Community Trust and Thatchers Foundation - and local volunteers who have supported the recent improvements at Hellenge Hill nature reserve. Their generosity and hard work have been vital in helping us enhance this much-loved site for both wildlife and the local community."

We are delighted to announce that the Thatchers Foundation has pledged £50,000 to help us build our new community building.

As the largest employer in the area Thatchers were keen to help us in creating a valuable community asset that will benefit all the residents of Winscombe, Sandford and surrounding areas. The WCA Trustees & WiNSpace team are very appreciative of this support, which makes Thatchers one of our larger sponsors. This donation will allow us to improve the specification of the project.

With the success of the grant award from the Thatchers Foundation and other local donations our funding shortfall is now reduced by £75k, with only £100k left to meet our £2m target.

Western Rebels Walking Football Club (50+) is an inclusive club which welcomes players of all levels and abilities to play walking football. It currently has 80 members who live local and are aged between 50 and 80+.

One of the reasons why this club was formed is to help those suffering from social isolation due to mental or physical difficulties.

We have recently donated £340 to Western Rebels Walking Football Club, which has covered 2 adults to attend a St. Johns Ambulance CPR/defibrillator training course. This donation will enable the club to continue thriving and providing much needed enjoyment and inclusion, whilst also providing life-saving knowledge and equipment. This will give players and their families an added sense of security whilst doing something that they love.

Great Western Air Ambulance Charity is the primary air ambulance responder for North Somerset, providing lifesaving work every day of the year. We have recently donated £8,250 to GWAAC which will contribute towards buying a new patient monitor.

Monitors are the most essential piece of kit carried for emergencies, enabling crew to assess vital information such as blood pressure, oxygen saturations, heart rate and much more, as well as doubling up as a defibrillator.

The monitors used by GWAAC provide the same standard of monitoring as in hospital, meaning crew can carry out advanced treatment on the scene of the emergency. Our donation will contribute towards the continuation of GWAAC’s vital work.

Thank you for all the hard work you do!

Thank you for all the hard work you do!

We recently received a donation of £3,000 from the Thatchers Foundation and so this we'd like to show our deep appreciation for their wonderful support of our work in the local area. Donations like this enable our Support Professionals to reach more people through both one-to-one and group support, giving support which so many have described as a lifeline when life has been turned upside down by a brain tumour diagnosis.

Thank you to our friends at Thatchers Cider for helping us to continue to be there when we're most needed.

Great to be able to support such an organisation1.

Great to be able to support such an organisation1.

Last weekend two of our team, Steve and Ian, travelled to the far north (well Derby) to collect our new (to us) 4x4 response vehicle we have purchased from Derby Mountain Rescue Team.

This has been kindly funded by contributions from numerous sources including National Grid, Analog Devices, Inc. Foundation and Thatchers Foundation.

This vehicle will be on the road very shortly once a few modifications take place to meet our requirements and will help us to provide our services across the Avon & Somerset area for many years to come!

ASSAR is a completely voluntary organisation and relies entirely on public donations to respond 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Your support is really appreciated by us and the people we help.

Rise Mendip Pump Track:

We’ve supported the brand new Ride Mendips Pump Track in Cheddar with a donation of £2,500 towards its development. The volunteer group creates opportunities for people of all ages in Somerset to get into cycling, skateboarding, scootering and other wheeled sports.
The cycle/pump track in Sharpham Road will benefit young people in the area, providing an amazing, all-weather facility to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle in a safe environment.

Looking back on Charities and groups supported over the last few years. Great to support the Axe Valley Men's Shed.

Here is how it helped

A donation from the Thatchers Foundation will be making a big difference to the Axe Valley Men’s Shed, and the development of its future home at Shortlands on the outskirts of Axbridge.
The organisation offers a unique service to its local community, a valued place for members to pursue practical interests, as well as building social connections and friendships, and importantly supporting their mental health and wellbeing.

At Shortlands, a sensory and accessible garden is planned, as well as landscaping and new outdoor activities. Our donation will also help the group continue its arts and crafts activities at its current home in Cheddar with an external tutor; and expand its workshop facility and model railway club, as well as its computer hub and IT literacy classes.
