This week, a jury in Scotland made a decision that could change how domestic abuse is understood.

In the case of Lee Milne and Kimberly Milne, they recognised something women have been saying for years:

That sustained domestic abuse can be life-threatening.

Kimberly Milne died after enduring a pattern of coercive control and abuse.

We also take a moment to recognise her family and loved ones, and the unimaginable loss they continue to live with.

This case acknowledges the devastating reality that abuse can push someone to a point of despair — and that this must be recognised.

This matters — not just nationally, but here in our own communities.

Because the experiences behind this case are not rare.

From women accessing support in our services risk assessments show that:

• 67% of women felt depressed or experienced suicidal thoughts
• 61% of women experienced mental abuse
• 65% of women experienced emotional abuse
• 51% of women felt depressed

This is what abuse often looks like.

Not always bruises.
But fear. Isolation. Control.
A constant erosion of someone’s sense of self.

It’s time to hold men who abuse accountable.

This case reflects what women live through every day — including here in North Ayrshire.

It shows why listening to women, believing them, and understanding the full impact of abuse is so important.

We’re honoured to share this powerful upcoming production, Flo’s Last Stand — a moving story of friendship, memories, and resilience.

Created by Doreen Ann Hearshaw, this play explores themes of domestic abuse and poverty, helping to shine a light on experiences that so many women face.

💛 All proceeds from this event will be donated to North Ayrshire Women’s Aid, supporting the vital work we do with women and children across our community.

"Hi, my name is Michelle Moffat and I’m proud to be a finalist in my very first pageant, Miss GB Ayrshire, competing in the Over 45 Classic category.

As part of my journey, I’ll be raising both awareness and funds for North Ayrshire Women’s Aid — a charity that is incredibly close to my heart. Around six years ago, during a very challenging time in my life, they supported me when I needed it most. I’ve seen first-hand the vital work they do for women and children in our community, and I’m honoured to now give something back.

I’m a self-employed cake maker, and to help raise funds I’ve been raffling off some of my cakes. I’m also taking on the Kiltwalk this April, walking 23 miles, and have been training hard in preparation.

Any support, whether through donations or simply helping spread the word, would mean so much — not just to me, but to the amazing work North Ayrshire Women’s Aid continue to do every day 💛"
