12 trustees and members of Saltburn Valleys CIO enjoyed the walk in Rifts Wood on Monday morning despite a bit of rain at the beginning. Stewart Ramsdale shared his knowledge of the heritage of the area and Alan Simkins his funghi knowledge as we walked along the Cleveland Way path to the Millfield Meadow and Marske Mill site. It was good to have a couple of the Countryside Volunteers amongst the group to tell us more about their input into maintaining the wood and meadow. The work in the Meadow is particularly inspiring.
Sue Featherstone had the kettle on back at the The Woodlands Centre ready for a welcome cuppa.

There are so many volunteers to thank for 👏🏻

We have the volunteers who do the practical work, ensuring the Saltburn Valleys are a beautiful and safe place to visit. Thank you to the Saltburn Countryside Volunteers and all the other groups who work so hard.

And we have the volunteers who work behind the scenes, doing things like admin and bidding for funding. Thank you to the board members, who you can "meet" here:

🤩 THANK YOU to everyone who helps keep the Saltburn Valleys the wonderful place that it is, we couldn't do it without you. 🌱

📣 Just a little reminder that it's FREE to become a member of the Saltburn Valleys!

You simply need to fill out a membership form. This can be done online or through a form printed from this page:
https://www.saltburnvalleys.org.uk/index.php/membership/how-you-can-help-us

Or hard copies of the form can be found at Saltburn Library.

Members receive regular newsletters and the opportunity to have their say in future decisions regarding the Saltburn Valleys.

And whilst it's free to be a member, we still welcome any donations 😉

The charity’s membership model has been chosen so that people can engage with and participate in the future of the valleys and be kept informed of developments.

🌳Rifts Wood and the Meadow🌳
There has been much activity in the area of Rifts Wood and The Meadow in the past month, most of it positive.
Funding has been found, allowing new sculpture work to be introduced into the Meadow.
The Countryside Team have worked exceptionally hard with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council to enhance the attractiveness and accessibility of the land area.
Spectacular wood carvings have been funded, seating has been erected and general encouragement given to people to stay longer in this enchanting space.

Beautiful wood carvings by Steve Iredale Sculpture - the message on the log says "Rest a while in the whispering meadow".
