A big to the team at Avon and Bourne Valley Art Exhibition who once again supported us at their recent show, raising a fantastic £1,500.

The supporters presented the funds to the team at the Stars Appeal Breast Unit and found out more about our new fundraising project to fund a new Mammogram machine for the Unit, costing £300,000.

Support like yours is helping transform physical therapy for patients at Salisbury District Hospital

Senior Physiotherapist Naomi Roberts and Speech and Language Therapist Jess Willetts are pictured here with one of the new ‘tilt in space’ chairs, funded by our amazing supporters.

The Medical and Surgical Therapy team now has two of these specialist chairs, which improve comfort and support for patients with neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s, stroke, and neuromuscular disorders, who struggle to sit upright on their own.

The chairs can be tilted forward or backward and help relieve pressure when sitting. They make it easier and more comfortable for patients to spend time out of bed and to take part in physiotherapy and other rehabilitative activities to help their recovery along. The chairs also make it easier and more comfortable for patients to have specialist X-Rays to check their eating and swallowing.

Naomi said: “Having these chairs means we can help our patients take part in their physical therapy in ways we couldn’t before. Their families can also take them off the ward, which makes a big difference to their day and really lifts their mood. Thank you so much to all the Stars Appeal donors, you are making a huge difference to our patients and to the care we can provide.”

A massive to local supporter Lara Chitty who took on multiple Hyrox challenges and raised over a whopping £8,000!

Lara presented the funds to our team from the Pembroke Cancer Unit and Endoscopy Unit at Salisbury District Hospital. The money raised will be split equally between the two units.

It's thanks to support like Lara's that we are able to support people with cancer during their treatment by providing free aromatherapy sessions, hot drinks and refreshments, live music, rehabilitation sessions and much more!

If you would like to support the Stars Appeal by taking on your own challenge, please email [email protected].

JUST IN CASE YOU MISSED IT – WATCH THE TREKKERS FLASHMOB!

The Old George Mall in Salisbury on Saturday was filled with colour, music, dancing and Indian culture as around 70 Stars Appeal trekkers, Salisbury District Hospital staff, and members of the local South Asian community celebrated the Stars Appeal Fundraising Treks.

Over 200 people joined a Bollywood flashmob — beating their goal of topping the Salisbury record of 150 — and helped raise an amazing £1,500.

Thank you to everyone involved in the trekker's event and helped make it such a memorable day!

⭐WALK FOR WARDS 2026 - Jo's Story⭐

Meet Jo, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer twice, and is taking part in Stars Appeal - Walk for Wards 2026 on Sunday 5th July to say thank you to the Breast Unit team at Salisbury District Hospital who cared for her.

Jo was first diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2016. She said: “I was so convinced it was just a lump. I had all these scans and went to see the consultant who told me they were treating it as breast cancer. I just cried, I said ‘I don’t want this’. It was very hard telling my children who were 10 at the time. It was a big shock for everybody.”

Scans found five tumours and Jo underwent a mastectomy to remove her breast and had six rounds of chemotherapy, finishing her treatment in August 2016.

But in April last year, Jo found another lump where her breast had been removed. This time she was cared for in the Stars Appeal Breast Unit, which opened in 2017. It is the first-ever dedicated unit for breast patients at Salisbury Hospital.

“They got me in very quickly and I had scans and two biopsies there and then. I started to cry, I knew then what it was, that the cancer was back,” adds Jo. “It was so traumatic the first time; to have it happen again was devastating.”

Jo underwent surgery to remove the cancer and radiotherapy treatment. She has finished her treatment but continues to have regular checks and annual mammograms at the Breast Unit.

“The Breast Care nurses run the unit like their home. I feel completely at ease there. The Breast Care team look after you and take care of everything. The unit feels less like a hospital. The fitting room with all the prostheses in is beautiful. It’s a wonderful environment and it’s also the other small touches that the Stars Appeal provide like the shopping-type bag you put your clothes in that make it a really special place.”
