Gurkha Welfare Advice Centre UK is a joint operation between The Gurkha Welfare Trust, the leading Gurkha char

ity, and the Brigade of Gurkhas. Since their inception, our Gurkha Welfare Advice Centres (GWAC) in Salisbury and Aldershot have helped thousands of retired Gurkhas to successfully settle in the UK. Our teams work closely with government bodies and service charities such as SSAFA, the RBL and the ABF, who are committed to supporting Army veterans. Managed by retired Gurkha officers, the two offices are ideally placed to impart advice and help tailored to the elderly retired Gurkhas and widows coming to settle in the UK, who might otherwise lack the necessary language skills to access the welfare state. Whether it be for accessing living expense grants or eligible state benefits, seeking employment or simply general advice on life in the UK, the GWACs play a vital role in helping those in need. Staff from the Gurkha Welfare Trust (GWT) and the Gurkha Welfare Advice Centre (GWAC) had a fantastic day at Bramcote Barracks on 7 May 2026.

From meeting the team at 30th Signal Regiment to experiencing a taste of Army life, the day was full of learning, engagement, and great conversations. It was a brilliant opportunity to better understand the experiences of serving personnel and strengthen connections with the wider Army community.

He is someone who truly understands teamwork and always brings positive energy to those around him. He enjoys spending time with colleagues and often goes out of his way to treat and support others, making everyone feel valued and included.

Today we are introducing Gunja Shah, a valued member of our team. He is one of the most hardworking colleagues at the Trust and truly sets an example of dedication, commitment, kindness, and a strong sense of family values.

Gunja has previously served in the army as a clerk and continues to bring those skills, discipline, and experience into his current role. He inspires us all with his mindset that no task is impossible - where there’s a problem, there’s always a solution.

Having served in the military himself, Gunja deeply understands the challenges faced by ex-service personnel and supports them with genuine compassion and dedication.
