Our Facebook channels are for our supporters, people with lived experience of hardship, their families and our volunteers. Universal Credit is supposed to help you with living costs when you face tough times, but it doesn't even know the price of a pint of milk.

In fact, Universal Credit doesn't know the cost of any essentials like a weekly food shop or your heating bill.

It was never calculated against living costs and it's not regularly reviewed. Leaving millions without enough to survive and forced to turn to food banks.

🫸 But the UK government has the chance to fix this.

We're calling on them to set an independent process for Universal Credit, one that looks at what life actually costs and makes sure the support people receive matches up.

23-year-old Sharne turned to a food bank in her second year of University, after she struggled to afford food.

And sadly, she’s not the only one. We’ve seen a 53% increase in food parcels provided to young people, compared to 2019.

Young people are doing everything they can - balancing multiple jobs, studying to get a better paid job. And not all of them can turn to their parents for support.

15 years ago, food banks looked very different. Today, there are more than 35 times as many food bank centres across the UK as there were in 2010.

Food banks are there when people need them most, but they shouldn’t have to be. Everyone deserves enough to afford the essentials and live with dignity 💚
