For FS Pell-Brunt, one of the most rewarding parts of volunteering with the Air Cadets is helping young people understand the value of high standards.

From a perfectly presented uniform to precision on the drill square, she believes that attention to detail teaches cadets much more than how to march or polish their boots. It builds confidence, self-discipline, teamwork and pride in what they do.

“It’s fantastic to see a cadet who perhaps starts out lacking confidence gradually develop into someone who stands tall, takes pride in their appearance and sets a high standard for those around them.”

Being an RAF Air Cadet volunteer is about sharing your time, experience and enthusiasm to help young people develop — and for AS1 Adams, that means getting stuck into everything from road marching and airshows to the wider life of the squadron.

Alongside actively serving in the RAF, he gives his time to help cadets challenge themselves, build confidence and develop the teamwork, discipline and resilience that will serve them well both inside and outside the Cadet Forces.

“Being able to support young people while continuing to serve in the RAF is incredibly rewarding. Whether we’re out on a road march or simply getting stuck into squadron activities, it’s great to see cadets challenge themselves, work as a team and grow in confidence.”

🥾 Adventure. Challenge. Achievement.

For many young people, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award is about much more than completing a certificate. It is about stepping outside your comfort zone, discovering the outdoors and learning that you can achieve more than you thought possible.

As part of National Cadet Week, we’re celebrating the adult volunteers who make these opportunities possible.

For CI Thompson, supporting young people through the DofE is about watching cadets grow in confidence, develop resilience and create memories that will stay with them for years to come.

“There’s nothing more rewarding than helping young people discover what they’re capable of. Through the DofE, you can give them the confidence to step outside their comfort zone, embrace the outdoors and learn skills that will stay with them for life.”

Flight Lieutenant Andy Membery has been involved with the squadron for over 20 years, with the majority of that time being it's Commanding Officer.

He offers a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm in aircraft systems and military aviation history, and recently has branched out to support delivery of drone training.

When asked why he volunteers, Flt Lt Membery said:
"There is nothing as rewarding as providing young cadets with opportunities to develop into confident adults. Being able to support their journey is a privilege and a constant reminder of why I volunteer with the RAF Air Cadets.

I'm proud to play a small part in helping young people develop confidence, resilience and skills for life."

For many young people, flying starts with looking up at the sky in wonder. For RAF Air Cadets, that can become a reality.

Flying and gliding are a huge part of the Air Cadet experience. Cadets can take to the skies in gliders or powered aircraft with opportunities to progress towards formal flying and gliding training.

There’s something particularly special about gliding. As the glider leaves the ground, the noise of the launch disappears and you’re suddenly surrounded by nothing but sky. You’re not just watching aviation happen, you’re experiencing it from the cockpit.

This week, 5–11 October 2026, is the first ever National Cadet Week — a national celebration of the young people and adult volunteers who make the UK Cadet Forces what they are.

So if you've ever looked up at an aircraft and thought “I wonder what it’s like to fly?”, why not find out?

National Cadet Week has arrived! ✈️

This week, we’re celebrating everything that makes being an RAF Air Cadet such an incredible experience — from flying and gliding, to adventure training, fieldcraft, shooting, sport, STEM and the friendships made along the way.

Being an Air Cadet is about trying new things, developing new skills and discovering what you’re capable of.

Whether you dream of flying an aircraft, leading a team, travelling somewhere new or simply want to challenge yourself, there’s an opportunity waiting for you.

Taking to the air yet again!
Today cadets from 2293(Marlborough)Squadron Air Cadets , 1010 (City of Salisbury) Squadron Air Training Corps and Amesbury met at 1011 Sqn to learn about the safe and legal operation of Remotely Piloted Air Systems (RPAS) aka . . . drones.

After instruction from our amazing volunteers, the cadets all registered with the Civil Aviation Authority and successfully passed the test to earn their FlyerID!

Our cadets were then challenged to a series of indoor flying exercises, designed to familiarise them with the controls and the responsiveness of the drone.

Huge congratulations to everyone who attended today and earned their Blue RPAS Wings!
