DOES SALISBURY HAVE ENOUGH TREES?

🌳City trees can reduce urban heat by between 2 and 8 degrees C.

🌳Two processes are responsible for the cooling effect - shade and transpiration (water evaporating from the leaves).

🌳Access to trees is unequal. Over 1 in 3 UK adults can't access trees to help them cool down in hot weather for a 5 minute walk from their home.

🌳Most urban areas have a tree canopy of below 20%.

Do you think parts of Salisbury would benefit from the cooling effect of having more trees?

Credit to Trees for Cities for these facts.

HAVE YOU SPOTTED ANY DAY FLYING MOTHS?

This one is a scarlet tiger moth and often seen in May and June in gardens, wooded areas and by rivers. The caterpillars feed on nettles, comfrey, bramble and honeysuckle.

How to tell if its a moth or a butterfly? Butterflies tend to have clubbed antennae and hold their wings closed when resting.

Happy ! Loved this moment at People in the Park last month - a lull in visitors to our stall meant the team could chat and craft together 🧶 here's a glimpse of how volunteers support Wildlife and Wellbeing...

Tanay listens to all my ideas and challenges, helps me make decisions and somehow never loses his patience! Tanay is one of our two volunteer directors. (2nd left in pic)

Ridz provides wise and sensible financial guidance and supports an "agile" approach to our non-profit governance. Ridz is also a volunteer director. (right in pic)

Ella brings no-nonsense problem-solving, passion, enthusiasm and flexibility to events. I wish we had the right paid job for her, but we don't right now - let me know if you might! (2nd right in pic)

Tash arrives and just calms me down 😅 she is a relaxing presence and helps make everyone feel welcome and comfortable - which is exactly what we aim and do at WaW! (left in pic)

More important than public posts are personal thank yous, which they have received or will receive later this week! 🤗🙏 Charley x
