1010 (City of Salisbury) Squadron Air Training Corps

1010 (City of Salisbury) Squadron Air Training Corps Welcome to the official 1010 (City of Salisbury) Squadron Air Training Corp page. It is aimed at young people from 12 to 18.

This is a place where prospective cadets and members of staff can find out more information on 1010 Sqn. The Air Training Corps is a national youth organisation sponsored by the Royal Air Force (RAF). Cadets can undertake a wide range of activities, including flying, gliding, adventurous training (inc Duke of Edinburgh Award), shooting, leadership and team-working skills and many different types o

f sporting activities. As well as cadets, we are always interested in adults who may have some time to spare to assist in lecturing, project work or anything else that interests. A wide range of development opportunities are available. No previous knowledge is required, just the willingness to have a go! If you haven't got the time to commit to joining as a member of staff, we also have a civilian committee which helps in the fundraising efforts for the Squadron which is looking for new members to help them out.

Today, Saturday 15th August, in Salisbury, members of 1010 (City of Salisbury) along side the RBL, commemorated the 81st anniversary of VJ Day in a service at the war memorial.
A huge thank you to the 8 cadets, who turned up looking very smart alongside with myself and CI Sherburn for giving up their Saturday morning and attending this event.
As we were the only cadet force there, it was duly noted and fully praised by the RBL, Lord Mayor, Jenny Bolwell, councillor John Glenn and the general public.
It was very warm but thankfully not as hot as previous days.
Well done and great effort 1010 Sqn!

Today 3 cadets from 1010 namely Cpl Illas, Cadets Crowle and Said enjoyed air experience flying with 2AEF. For Cadets Crowle and Said it was their first time in a military aircraft, a Grob Tutor the RAF’s ab initio trainer. Each cadet had a least 35 minutes in the air and when they came they had big smiles on their faces which said it all. Our thanks to 2 AEF for making this possible.

Today 12 cadets and 2 staff attended the annual Race for Men event which is to raise money for prostate cancer research, a worthy cause. We were asked to present medals, issue goody bags, bananas and water at the finish line. There were 4 separate races; 3k, 5k, 10k and 21 k (half marathon). The cadets were excellent in the ex*****on of the tasks given, praising & giving encouragement to the participants as they finished, so much so that we have been asked to do it again next year!

Update on the refurbishment, the new roof is on! I understand the building is being completely rewired this week, I have been told that the work should be completed by the end of June. The second picture shows a skip with some of the internal doors having been removed so work has also been going on inside as well.

Yesterday Cadets Law, Preda and Wijayaseraka went gliding for the first time. Each cadet had 2 launches and also learned about ground handling the airframes as you can see from the pictures they had a great time. Our thanks to 622 VGS.
