Hi, Folls!

Would you be happy to sign and forward my colleague ’s petition?

Uneven pavements and roads scared by patchwork paving by utility companies cause trips and falls for lots of people of all ages, walkers, runners, mobility aids users, people with visual impairments, parents with buggies. Under current legislation, 1990 New Roads Act, utility companies only have to pave the strip they dig up. According to a gov report 2022, a hole is dug up in a UK road/pavements surface, EVERY 7 seconds.

She is calling on Parliament to change the law, making utility companies pave the whole width of the surface they dig up, at their own cost.

Petition needs 100.000 before end of Dec 2025, to get debated.

Petition: No More Patchwork Paving: Change the resurfacing rules for utility companies.

Amend the law to require utility companies to fully resurface, at their own cost, the entire width of the pavement/road rather than just the strip they dug up. Local authorities can be left liable for repairs or injury compensation after the post-works guarantee period has elapsed.
