LEAGUE OF FRIENDS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Established in 1954, the Salisbury Hospital League of Friends helps to finance projects at the hospital which provide or improve facilities that are beyond the reach of NHS funding, focusing on small projects that make a big difference to patients, visitors and staff. Its primary source of revenue is the popular Sweetshop near the main entrance to the hospital, next to the Stars Appeal Bookshop. The Sweetshop, which sells children’s knitted goods and toys and My Trusty products as well as old-fashioned sweets, is run entirely by volunteers. We would welcome a few more people who would be willing to give a few hours a week to help run the shop. Volunteers will receive all training and help that they need, and there are dedicated League of Friends parking spaces a few minutes walk from the main entrance.

If you’re interested in volunteering with us, leave a comment, message on this site or leave your contact details at the shop in person or by telephone 01722 336262 extn 4534 We are open Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm

Olympus Stroboscope funded for the Joint Speech and Language Therapy and ENT Voice Clinic. The League of Friends have funded an additional piece of equipment which allows for a more detailed examination of the larynx to see how the mucosa of the vocal cords vibrates. This allows the team to better identify the causes of the voice changes and so plan for appropriate treatment faster. This might be a specific type of voice therapy or back to the ENT consultants for surgery.

This year the League sponsored the printing of the End of Life care information booklet which is given to family members, next of kin or a friend who has a loved one nearing the end of their life. This booklet is aimed at providing families and their loved ones with guidance, and support during this difficult time. It is designed to support their understanding of what is happening now and what happens when your loved one has died.

STAFF ROOM UPGRADE PROJECT

Staff wellbeing is well known to be influenced by the environment. Having comfortable spaces to relax and recharge has a significant positive impact on our staff and therefore our patients. Staffing levels have not recovered post pandemic and the hospital remains incredibly busy. Stress, anxiety and depression remain the highest cause of sickness across the organisation. The League of Friends has long advocated for staff wellbeing and in 2023 pledged ÂŁ1000 to each of the clinical staff rooms in the Trust, to improve the facilities and help staff to feel valued and supported at a time when morale is at a low ebb.
As of October 2024, 24 staff rooms have been identified and below are some of the photographs of the areas after improvement. The project will continue in 2025
