It was eyes down at the ready for a successful evening fundraiser at The Clubhouse - Downton last night, a great turn out enjoyed a fun filled evening of bingo with meal and raffle raising a magnificent 🌟 £621.46 🌟for our charity. This enables us to offer more people who are affected by cancer and their loved ones and carers our services of social-drop in support, complementary therapies, counselling and gentle yoga. Big thanks to Jackie, Rachel, our Fundraising Team, Gavin, our volunteers, Downton Football Clubhouse and everyone who contributed to making this a special event.

🩡 Cancer Prevention Action Week | 15–21 June 2026 🩡

This week marks Cancer Prevention Action Week, led by the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF). The 2026 theme, "Science Not Fiction β€” Evidence Saves Lives," shines a spotlight on a powerful message: approximately 40% of all UK cancer cases are preventable through evidence-based lifestyle choices.

The campaign encourages us to focus on simple, practical habits that can significantly reduce our cancer risk:

βœ… Maintain a healthy weight – avoiding excess weight gain is one of the most important ways to protect against cancer.

πŸ₯— Choose a healthy diet – prioritise whole grains, vegetables, fruits and beans, while limiting red and processed meats, highly processed foods and sugary drinks.

🚢 Stay physically active – regular movement and exercise can have a positive impact on overall health and cancer prevention.

🍷 Reduce alcohol intake – even small amounts of alcohol can increase the risk of several types of cancer.

Cancer Prevention Action Week is an opportunity to learn from the science, make informed choices, and support one another in creating healthier futures.
