Thank you to everyone who came along to the cafe this afternoon and took advantage of a free blood pressure checks while enjoying delicious cake , tea and coffee 🧁☕️
We raised funds for British Heart Foundation , not as much as I would have liked, but still grateful for your donations. 🙏

How lovely to have some warm sunshine ☀️

Did you get to All Saints church at the weekend to see the wonderful display of vintage wedding dresses alongside some beautiful floral displays by the Porton Flower Club, it was a lovely and fascinating event with some great old wedding photos. Well done to all involved in putting it together 👏

The “Drop in Cafe” is on this week - Wednesday 17th- when a local health team will be offering free blood pressure checks and other health advice, funds raised will be donated to the British Heart Foundation, so why not come along.

The Youth group will be on Friday between 5-6.30pm, this is a great addition to the Hall activities for young people in the area, it is free, so, if you haven’t been before, why not drop by and see what’s on offer.

Did you know the Main hall and small hall can be hired on an hourly basis (£14)? (its great for dance practice, indoor sports ,craft activities and meetings); we also have tables and chairs that can be hired to cater for larger gatherings. Do get in touch.

We now have some limited availability for new regular activities, if you have ideas, do get in touch . It is always nice to discuss new plans and hopefully we can find a mutually satisfactory time to bring something helpful/sociable/enjoyable to the Hall. 😊

How are you? I know the gardeners and farmers are grateful for the rain but I had thought it was safe to put away the fleeces and winter coats 😂 Thankfully the heating/air con units are very adaptable, so for the activities in the hall this week, the heating will be on if necessary.

IPC meet this week, monday evening at 7.30pm in the small hall, do come along and raise any concerns.

Please be aware that on Wednesday & Thursday from 7pm, sections of Winterslow Road are being resurfaced (hurray) which may cause delays or detours or both!

VOLUNTEERS WEEK

The Drop in Cafe is run by volunteers. Once a month (on the third Wednesday) a dedicated group set the tables with crockery, flowers and delicious cakes for the cafe. Every month talented volunteers bake while others serve & wash up, it is a real community effort, by the community and for the community. The cafe offers a lovely welcoming space to all, to come along and chat with old friends or to make new friends. Donations are accepted, rather than set price for tea/coffee & cake,a proportion of which goes to a specific charity each month.

We always need helpers to set up, serve, wash up, bake and clear away; commitment is flexible and 2+ hours once a month is not onerous.

If you would like to be involved you would be very welcome.

This week is also “Volunteers Week”, a chance to find out a bit more about volunteering in this area and how you could make a difference (for yourself and others) if you have some spare time. The Hall has volunteering opportunities, both on the committee where new ideas are always welcome and at the groups that use the Hall. Club Friday need helpers and drivers; the parish council would like to have more community participation; the monthly cafe always welcomes new people to help on the day or bake; I’m sure others groups (like Beavers & Scouts or BV Link) could offer volunteering opportunities. So why not give it some thought?
