Tonight our cubs had a visit from Vic and Lizzie from the pride in place project with a drama workshop. They all engaged really well and one of our cubs got slightly distracted to rescue a trapped cranefly. He then named it Dave and decided it was going to be our new group mascot 😂

Another great session from all and thank you to Pride in Place for running these sessions with us.

We currently have 6 places in our cub pack on a wednesday evening based in bemerton heath community centre. If you are interested or know someone who is please get them to reach out!!

Cost is £12 a month starting from the 1st of the month after your child joins!

This is such an important post about cub scouts.

🗣️ DO YOU KNOW? 🐺⚜️

Cub Scouting was created to give younger children their own age-appropriate pathway into the world of Scouting.

Instead of simply copying the activities of older Scouts, Cub Scouts were introduced to activities designed around play, adventure, learning, teamwork and character development.

One of the most recognizable traditions of Cub Scouting is the Den—a small group where Cubs learn and grow together under the guidance of adult leaders.

Through activities such as camping, games, crafts, hiking, community service and learning practical skills, Cubs are encouraged to become more confident, responsible, helpful and prepared.

The idea is simple:

🏕️ Learn by doing.
🤝 Grow through teamwork.
❤️ Serve others.
⚜️ Do your best.

Cub Scouting has changed in many ways over the years, including its uniforms, badges and programme structure, but its central purpose remains the development of young people through meaningful experiences.

A young Cub today can become tomorrow’s Scout Leader, community leader, professional or role model.

That is one of the beautiful things about Scouting—it starts with small steps and can shape a lifetime. 🌍⚜️

Bringing Reality to You

Yesterday our cubs were lucky to have a session run by Vic and Tracey in pride in place. They started off with a lively game of assassin then made wishes for Bemerton heath on a wishing tree.

They then moved to a different room to design their own bunting triangle we had a range of designs and colours. They enjoyed that very much and most didn't want to go home afterwards.

Tonight our scouts were visited by the lovely Vic and Tracey at Pride in Place who ran an art bunting workshop with them. The designs are looking amazing so far can't wait to see them finished.

Our cubs started their collector badges. A few cubs brought in collections to show to the pack and others wrote about what they would like to start collecting. They even had an adventure outside to practice photography skills towards the photography badge as you can see by my smiling face!

Tonight we visited Salisbury fire station with our littlest scout sections, squirrels and beavers!

They got to learn what is on a fire engine, use a fire hose, sit in a fire engine, have a throwing competition. Two of our squirrels even got to use a thermal camera and learn how that worked.

Thank you very much to firefighters Sam, Daphne, Richie and Mark (I couldn't remember if it is mark so hoping I'm right) for your time this evening and a special thank you again to firefighter Daphne who helped keep our wiggliest squirrels busy. Your help was very much appreciated.

For our first session back our cubs recreated their code of conduct. In January they opted to make a code of conduct shaped like a tree and we recreated that style with a few extra expectations.

We took them outside for a trust game mid session to burn some energy and then came back inside to talk about what we enjoyed most over the last academic year and what they would like to do again this year.

Many said camp, fire lighting as well as sports and a water fight.

Good first session back all.

Last week we organised our scout cupboard and took inventory of what we have in our cupboard. All prepared for September!!

Saturday daytime activities.

Up bright and early at 7am yesterday morning. We started the day with some pioneering activities and pyrography wood burning.

After lunch we went on a hike and exploration to build dens and play some football. 3 hours later we walk back slowly and have a bunch of exhausted cubs.

We spent the afternoon colouring, drawing and leaders trying to stay awake.

A small campfire in the evening because of the wind and then straight to bed for the kids. We actually made it to bed before midnight last night which means a success.

Bring on the last day!
