House of Opportunity

House of Opportunity House of Opportunity is the operating name of FSCI (UK), and works with partners throughout Southeast Europe to prevent modern slavery and transform lives.

The Foundation for Social Change & Inclusion runs a series of small group homes for state and foster care leavers; a group at high risk of being trafficked and exploited as prostitutes and of living a life in extreme poverty. The House of Opportunity Programme helps young people make the difficult transition from institutions to independent life through education and employment and close support.

The Early Years Education Programme provides a vital service for marginalised Roma people: access to kindergarten places for 4-6 year olds. The Social Enterprise Programme provides employment and training opportunities for at-risk young people. Our Development Programme helps to replicate our projects throughout Southeast Europe and enhances the capacity of local NGOs to effect change in their countries. Our annual Christmas Box Appeal brings joy to thousands of children and families in Bulgaria and Serbia.

Over the summer, it is crucial our partners at A2B Albania maintain its relationship with the Roma & Egyptian families and children at Rrogozhinё. During the school year, the kindergarten is open every weekday, providing vital access to education and a bridge into one of the poorest communities in Albania. During the summer months, the children are at risk from the choices made by their families.

These beautiful children rarely receive hugs from their parents. Every child and young teen here has been made to beg on the beaches this season. Their stories are filled with food scarcity, rejection and deep social poverty. But no child should be defined by their circumstances.

A game of football offers the chance to reconnect with the children and speak with their parents. This seems like a small moment, but it is another step in A2B’s mission to reach out to these children, tell them that they are precious, loved, and full of potential, and help them overcome any “fence” that separates them from hope.

Çelik was living in abject poverty in rural Albania, and it looked like he would be trapped there, as his family were dependent on him for its survival. Thankfully his local church connected him to our partner at A2B, and now Çelik can thrive whilst still supporting his loved ones.
