We strongly welcome the government’s commitment to give every person sleeping rough a bed this winter, alongside a further £102m in funding.

This is a vital step in providing immediate help to people sleeping on the streets. We’re also encouraged to see the government recognise that holistic support is crucial to breaking the cycle of homelessness.

But the key question is: what happens next?

Many people experiencing homelessness need more than somewhere to stay during the winter months. They need access to wraparound support, including mental health and addiction services, opportunities to build social connections, and good quality supported accommodation.

Latest national figures show that 62% of people experiencing homelessness had one or more support needs.

We now need to see this commitment built upon through long-term action: greater investment in preventing homelessness, more genuinely affordable housing and better access to local support services.

We also welcome the announcement of a national summit on rough sleeping this autumn and would welcome the opportunity to share learning from Emmaus communities across the country. 🤝

Photo round-up of our Craft & Connect sessions!

Decoupage and collage brought tins back to use as lovely plant pots – each as unique as their creators at our Craft & Connect session.

Embellishments were added and final touches, before we added our plants.

“It is fabulous how you can recycle and reuse an everyday item, which would usually be discarded, and it turn it into a lovely thing that will now sit on my windowsill,” one of our participants said.

Residents have also been creating tote bags in the Emmaus Salford community garden, using paint and templates for inspiration.

There's a different craft with Kate each week at our Craft & Connect sessions at our Live Well Space, Emmaus Salford, Fitzwarren Street in Pendleton.

Children are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult.

Join Craft & Connect on Wednesdays from 10am to 1pm.
