Salford Sea Cadets We are Salford Sea Cadets and part of the UK's largest maritime youth charity. Trips on warships and making cakes.

City of Salford Sea Cadets have been a continuous presence in the city since 1936 making us one of the oldest youth organisations to serve the young people of Salford. We are based in Worsley but our cadets come from across the City, and from a range of backgrounds. We take part in a huge range of activities ranging from sailing and rowing to climbing and archery. Our focus is on developing our cadets sense of self confidence, self discipline and motivation, all whilst having great fun, and trying new things. Cadets from Salford have gone on to do Charity work in Africa, join the Royal Marines, work as dental nurses, be desk officers in the Merchant Navy, become a captain in the Royal Navy, be a full time parents, study at University. We are constantly on the lookout for new cadets and new volunteers, whether you can spare a day as a one-off, or you want to get involved on a regular basis, come and tlak to us and see how you can help give something back to the young people in your community.

At our Parade night on Thursday evening we had a Cadet Voice meeting. This is where we get the cadets to have their say in how we run our unit and what they think are the priorities going forward. I am always blown away by the way they respond and care for our Unit and the great ideas they come up with.

National Cadet Week.

Today I would like to thank the Royal Navy Youth Engagement Team who are based at HMS Eaglet. Monday night was absolutely brilliant, all the cadets had a fantastic time learning about the Royal Navy. and went away with a couple of gizzits! (Navy speak for a small freebie present). And a little bonus gizzit for the volunteers as well, thank you.

I would recommend the Team to any Youth group who whould like someone to give an informal, engaging chat to your young people about the opportunities within the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.

National Cadets Week.
Today we are celebrating one of our Volunteers, Petty Officer Steve Kay. Steve was recently awarded his Cadet Forces Medal and it was presented by HRH Princess Royal. Who is the Admiral of the Sea Cadets.

Petty Officer (SCC) Stephen Kay, of City of Salford Sea Cadets, is awarded the Cadet Forces Medal in recognition of his dedicated and valued service to the Sea Cadet Corps. Having previously served for nine years in the Royal Navy, including aboard HMS Exeter during the Falklands War, Stephen has brought considerable naval experience, practical knowledge and enthusiasm to his volunteering. As an Engineering and Powerboat Instructor, Training Officer and qualified relief engineer aboard TS Jack Petchey, he has helped cadets develop their skills, confidence and understanding of life at sea. His commitment, high standards and willingness to share his experience make him a valued member of the unit and have helped provide a richer and more rewarding experience for the young people he supports.

All of us at City of Salford Sea Cadets are very proud of Steve and of his achievement's, Congratulations and well done.

A message from the King included the following:
For more than a century, the Cadet Forces have helped generations of young people discover their strengths, broaden their horizons and develop the confidence to face life's challenges. In every part of our country, from our cities and towns to our rural and coastal communities, cadets come together to learn new skills, build lasting friendships and contribute positively to the communities in which they live.
City of Salford Sea Cadets are kicking of the week with a visit from the Royal Navy Engagement Team (SET) who are a dedicated group of serving Royal Navy personnel who engage with schools, colleges, cadet units, and community groups across the UK to promote practical skills, leadership, and awareness of naval careers and operations.

Good morning,

On behalf of all the cadets and volunteers at the City of Salford Sea Cadets I would like to thank the Gosling Foundation for their kind donation. We were able to refurbish our entrance hall. This gives visitors a professional first impression.

I would also like to thank our Treasurer who works hard behind the scenes to secure funding for these projects. The contractor Mike Johnstone of MJ Maintenance for a great well done.

And last but not least the volunteers who are giving up their own time to bring it all together. Who give up that what is most precious...Time. To give young people the skills and confidence to reach their full potential.

City of Salford Sea Cadets would like to remind everyone about being Safe on the water. We all love being on the water but we need to stay safe. Over 300 people a year accidentally drown in the UK. Child drowning deaths in England have doubled in the last 5 years.

Due to the hard work of our Unit Management Team especially our Treasurer we secured some funding. This funding has helped make our unit become more energy efficient and a more pleasant environment to teach and learn in.

We feel that with these small changes and future planned changes that we are in a better position to continue to grow. With the help of new volunteers and the commitment shown by the volunteers who have been here awhile, who are instrumental to our success, we feel we are in a good place to offer young people of Salford a fantastic Sea Cadet experience.

I would like to thank all our volunteers for their hard work, time and effort.
