City of Salford Sea Cadets have been a continuous presence in the city since 1936 making us one of the oldest youth organisations to serve the young people of Salford. We are based in Worsley but our cadets come from across the City, and from a range of backgrounds. We take part in a huge range of activities ranging from sailing and rowing to climbing and archery. Our focus is on developing our cadets sense of self confidence, self discipline and motivation, all whilst having great fun, and trying new things. Cadets from Salford have gone on to do Charity work in Africa, join the Royal Marines, work as dental nurses, be desk officers in the Merchant Navy, become a captain in the Royal Navy, be a full time parents, study at University. We are constantly on the lookout for new cadets and new volunteers, whether you can spare a day as a one-off, or you want to get involved on a regular basis, come and tlak to us and see how you can help give something back to the young people in your community.

We are pleased to announce that we currently have spaces available in our new Junior Section and would like to invite young people aged 9–11 to join us.
About Us
Sea Cadets provides a wide range of engaging, nautical‑themed activities inspired by the customs and traditions of the Royal Navy. Young people have the opportunity to learn practical skills such as cookery, engineering, first aid, sailing, navigation, and seamanship — both on land and on the water.
Across the UK, more than 14,000 young people attend 400 units located in towns, cities, and ports, supported by 9,000 dedicated volunteers. Together, they take on new challenges, gain confidence, and develop life‑enhancing skills.
Research shows that involvement in structured youth activities helps young people build key personal attributes such as motivation, self‑confidence, leadership, respect, self‑discipline, honesty, and integrity.

Let me start by wishing everyone a Happy New Year and hope you've all had a great Christmas period.

We have not been sat on our hands over this period. Thanks to some great work from the Unit Management Team especially the Treasurer, we have been able to secure some funding. The Uniformed volunteers have used this funding to replace the heating and lighting to more efficient systems, which will make parade nights warmer and brighter. We hope that more work will be carried out around the Unit over the coming month.

I would like to give a big shout out to a couple of our parents, Stacey & Andy who not only pointed us towards some funding opportunities but went on to raise £110 donation in cooperation with the Beehive Community Centre Mosley Common, for the running of the Unit, Thank you very much.

We feel this last has been OK with few ups and downs. With the recruitment of a few more members of instructing staff and a few more UMT members we are positive about the next 12 months. We hope to grow our cadet numbers, as well as look at getting more cadets on the water qualifications and some more cadets off shore on the Sea Cadets off shore fleet.

Everyone who volunteers at City of Salford Sea Cadets knows we could not have a positive impact on our young people if it wasn't for the Parents. So we would like to thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Onwards and Upward in 2026.

Sub- Lieutenant (SCC) William Goodall RNR
Officer in Charge City of Salford Sea Cadets.
