💜 What a fantastic day at the Weaste & Seedley Social Club Community Fun Day! 💜

We were delighted to attend and support such a brilliant local event. It was great to meet so many local people, chat with families, support the fantastic stallholders and see the community come together. 🙌

A huge thank you to Bake & Bond and Weaste & Seedley Social Club for putting on such a wonderful day and for welcoming us along. 👏

We love being able to support events like this — because supporting veterans is important, but so is supporting the families and wider local community around us. ❤️

🎉🐾 SALFORD SAM HITS THE PARTY SCENE! 🐾🎉

What better way to spend a Saturday than helping celebrate a very special birthday! 🚢⚓️

We were delighted to join the celebrations for the 21st Birthday of Holyrood Nursery Salford Royal and bring a little bit of Salford Sam fun to the party! 🥳🐾

Sam had a fantastic time meeting the children, families and staff, posing for photographs and generally doing what he does best, bringing smiles and a bit of mischief to the local community! 😺❤️

It was also a great opportunity to bump into the Ceremonial Mayor of Salford, making the day even more special! 👋🎩

The City of Salford Royal Naval Association isn't just about supporting veterans, we're proud to be part of the wider Salford community, supporting schools, families, charities, care settings and local events wherever we can. ⚓️🇬🇧

For generations, Salford has had a proud connection with the sea. From the docks along the Manchester Ship Canal, sailors and Merchant Navy crews set off from Salford to ports around the world, carrying vital cargo and connecting our city with the rest of the globe. 🌍⚓

On Merchant Navy Day, we remember and honour those who served at sea — including the many men and women whose journeys began right here in Salford Docks.

We’re proud to support the wider local community too.

And there’s one group that can sometimes be overlooked — the families who support our Armed Forces personnel when they deploy. ❤️

When someone goes away on deployment, it isn't just the person in uniform who serves and sacrifices. Partners, children, parents and families are left at home, carrying on with everyday life while waiting for their loved one to come home.

They are an important part of the Armed Forces community — and they deserve our support too. ⚓️❤️

That’s why we want Salford Sam to be out there meeting people, supporting local events, visiting schools and care homes, bringing smiles to families and helping the Royal Naval Association be a positive part of the community we all share.

Shipmates, it's time to charge your glasses, because today is Black Tot Day.

On 31 July 1970, the Royal Navy Admiralty committed one of history's greatest crimes by abolishing the Royal Navy's daily rum ration after more than 300 years of naval tradition.

The last official tot was issued at 11:00am, when the pipe of "Up Spirits" sounded across the fleet for the final time. Sailors wore black armbands, held mock funerals for the rum tub, and generally mourned the loss as only sailors can.

So, at 11:00 today, please take a moment to remember the brave souls who were forced to carry on without their daily rum ration.

⚓️ BLACK TOT DAY ⚓️
31st July

There was a time upon the sea,
When every Jack could proudly be,
Standing tall upon the deck at noon,
Waiting for the call to come soon.

“Up Spirits!” rang across the ship,
As every sailor took his nip.
A daily tot of Navy rum,
A little taste of where they’re from.

Through storm and calm, through night and day,
The tot was part of Navy way.
A moment shared by every crew,
A bond between the old and new.

But thirty-first July came round,
And silence fell without a sound.
Nineteen-seventy marked the day,
The final tot was poured away.

The last drops fell, the glasses dry,
And sailors watched the rum supply
Become a memory of the past,
A Navy tradition gone at last.

So raise your glass and spare a thought,
For all the sailors the tot brought
Together through the years at sea,
In ships of old and ships to be.

For every Jack, each shipmate true,
And all the crews who proudly knew
That when the call of “Up Spirits!” came,
The Navy rum was more than a name.

So on this day, let's raise a cheer,
For Navy sailors, far and near.
The tot may have gone, but memories stay—
Cheers to the Navy, and Black Tot Day! ⚓️🥃🇬🇧
