Yes, Through The Power Of Prayer The Lord Provides Comfort To Those Suffering!

Recently Paul came across D for the second time, and having prayed with her the first time he felt there was something to build on. D explained about a court appearance she was involved in and shared information going back to her childhood, much of it difficult. As Paul thought about what to pray for D about she revealed an attachment to a particular religious group that made Paul reconsider his approach. Having prayed with D he moved on reflecting on how he now had much more knowledge to go on in order to encourage D towards a commitment to Christ.

What Is Key To Operation Joy?

Family Connections!

As Paul surveyed Piccadilly Gardens he noticed a lady sat near the shops begging. He remembered that he had met D once before on hearing her name. After a few minutes Paul asked if there was anything that D would want prayer for, D replied, 'My family'. Just then A appeared for the first time in several months. Paul was aware that A had children but they had to be given up for adoption. Having prayed many times in the past with A Paul knew that she would be comfortable with being prayed for there and then. D also accepted the offer at that point and so Paul prayed with the two women and was able to bring the present circumstances of the families of each of them to the Lord. Knowledge of family is a key objective in Operation Joy. D indicated that she had a bible she owned stolen from her recently; Paul was able to give her New Testament before moving on.

First Time Meeting For Operation Joy…

But Not The Last!

Paul met P in Piccadilly Gardens for the first time one day recently. She seemed to be a mixture of chaotic and spiritual and a couple of hours later Paul came across her again. As Paul then went to leave her he said he would pray for her, thinking he would do that on the way home. However as Paul stood up he noticed that P had closed her eyes and was expecting a prayer immediately. So Paul was able to pray with her at the time.

On his next visit to Manchester Paul met P again and she told him of the struggles that she had experienced in life but went on to say that she had made a commitment to God when she last came out of prison. Paul hopes to maintain contact with her through social media.

Operation Joy Reminds Us...

"The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." – Psalm 34:18 (NIV)

S got upset as Paul approached a group of women near the station. The reason was that the first time S met Paul she remembered being with L who had since died. That association made her very tearful and when Paul looked up in his records when this was it was back in August 2024 demonstrating how long she had mourned her friend. Having distributed some snacks Paul moved on with the promise that he would pray for the group. J was one of them and in fact Paul had not seen her since covid began but they became friends on Facebook. Paul remembered that J had lost her grown up son and the grief is still evident. Prayer was appreciated here.

Seven:Nine Hosts An End Of Summer Term Trip…

And An Interesting Discussion Ensues!

At the end of term for the English class we celebrated with a walk around a lake on a hot summer’s day. Some students were nervous about travelling to a new place, while some of our more experienced ladies had been instrumental in planning the trip.
The herons, ducks and seagulls were all enjoying the water and inspired a few of the group to cool their feet in the refreshing water. Then, as we admired the nature all around us we gathered to share a picnic meal.
We’d been together for hours, then one person asked, “Do you still come to church on Sundays during the school holidays?” Sarah felt prompted by the Spirit to explain that Jesus had promised to send a helper to his followers after he died on the cross and rose into heaven.
“Do you believe that Jesus will come back?” she asked again.
“Yes, I do.” Sarah replied. “Then, everyone who follows him will go and live with him in heaven. Whether you’ve done good or bad things, he took the punishment for our sins when he died on the cross. There is a lady getting baptised at church on Sunday, in Islam, you wash each time before you pray but in Christianity we only need to get baptised once. Would you be interested to see it?”
One lady said “No, I am Muslim,” but maybe others were interested.
After Jesus shared his last meal with his disciples he washed their feet. ‘“Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. ‘I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.’ (John 13:12 & 15). Praise God for the opportunity to share the good news of Jesus with the English class students and pray for the Holy Spirit to water the seeds which have been sewn.
