☀️ Keeping Cool in the Sun ☀️

With temperatures set to rise this weekend, a few simple changes can help you stay comfortable and enjoy the sunshine safely.

Try to keep your home as cool as possible by opening windows when it's cooler outside and closing curtains in rooms that get lots of sun. If you're heading out, wear light, loose-fitting clothing, a hat and high-factor sun cream, and look for shade during the hottest part of the day.

It's also important to drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. Water, tea, milk and foods with a high water content, such as melon, strawberries and cucumber, can all help you stay hydrated.

If you have older friends, family members or neighbours, why not check in and make sure they're keeping cool too?

Stay safe, stay hydrated and enjoy the warmer weather. ☀️

The Rain Didn’t Stop Us ☔️
Last week’s Walk and Talk in Swinton went ahead despite the rain, with a slight change of plan. The group met in the car park before enjoying a short walk and then heading to a park café to warm up and have a chat over a drink.

At the café, there was a great conversation about the history of Swinton, along with some friendly introductions as it was the first session for the new Development Worker Aroosha
A positive, relaxed session all round proving a bit of rain doesn’t stop good company 😊

This month’s Cuppa with a Copper took place at Spruce Court Food Club in Pendleton.

We were joined by local PCSO Mark Gerrard, who spoke with residents about the importance of reporting crime and anti-social behaviour. Mark explained that reporting incidents helps build an accurate picture of what is happening in the community and enables the right action to be taken.
His message was clear: if incidents go unreported, the support and changes needed to address them are less likely to happen.

Thank you to everyone who came along to chat, ask questions, and find out more about keeping our community safe.

We were delighted to welcome Paula from the Health Protection Team at Public Health last week to our Brew and Chat at Pendleton library. She dropped in to have a chat with everyone about immunisations for older people.

Paula was really keen to hear everyone’s thoughts, from where people felt immunisations should take place, to whether there should be more information and support around understanding the benefits and uptake.

It was a really informative and relaxed conversation, with lots of great ideas shared. Most importantly, it was wonderful to see older people being included and having their voices heard on such an important topic.

Thank you to everyone who came along and got involved – your experiences and opinions truly matter!

yesterday, we celebrated our Age Friendly Volunteers at Black Leach Country Park! 🎉

During the day, we reflected on our activities and explored ways we can continue to improve and grow as a group. We were also proud to recognise the incredible dedication of our volunteers, with everyone reaching volunteering milestones and our highest achievement being an amazing 150 hours of volunteering! 👏

As part of the celebration, each volunteer brought along a meaningful object and shared the story behind it. This gave us a wonderful opportunity to learn more about each other’s cultures, interests, and personal experiences

We finished the day with a relaxing wellbeing walk around the park, enjoying the beautiful surroundings and reflecting on another successful year of volunteering together.

A huge thank you to all our volunteers for their commitment, enthusiasm, and the positive difference they make in our community. 💚

Interested in becoming a volunteer and making a difference in your local community? We'd love to hear from you! Call us on 0161 743 3625 or visit www.agefriendlysalford.org.uk to find out more about volunteering opportunities.

🌱 Our Salford Roots project at MediaCityUK is really starting to take shape!

It’s been fantastic to see the project grow and bring people together from across the community. We were especially pleased to welcome a local resident who joined us for the very first time. She came along to reconnect with her community and learn more about Age Friendly Salford, and we’re delighted to have her involved.

Projects like Salford Roots are about more than growing plants — they’re about growing connections, friendships, and stronger communities.

We can’t wait to see what develops next! 🌿
