🚲 Could you be the driving force behind a new network of walking buses and bike buses in Trafford and Manchester?

Walk Ride GM has launched an ambitious new pilot project to establish the UK’s first coordinated network of walking and cycling buses for school travel.

The project will test a scalable model for helping more children travel to school actively, safely and sustainably. The pilot will initially focus on Manchester and Trafford, working with local authorities, schools and community partners to connect routes, support volunteers and build a coordinated system that can grow across the city region.

Brilliant!

Families in Stretford are making the most of the new A56 cycle lanes with a Bike Bus that’s proving a wheely big hit. 🚲

Meeting every Friday on the regenerated Kingsway, families ride together to Victoria Park Junior School, supported by dedicated Ride Leaders from the community.

Launched last November, the Bike Bus offers a safe, fun and confident way to travel actively to school and there are now plans to invite families from St Ann’s RC Primary School in Stretford to join too!

🚸 Crackdown on unsafe school gate parking.

Trafford Council is stepping up enforcement on ‘School Keep Clear’ zones to keep children safe around schools.

📸 Our camera enforcement car is out this autumn – and if you're caught stopping or parking on yellow zig zag lines at drop-off or pick-up times, you could face a £70 fine.

🟡 These markings are there for a reason – to keep sightlines clear and crossings safe for families

Patrols will continue through to Christmas, with extra signage and school updates to remind everyone.

Let’s keep our school gates safe. 🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️

Will from Cycling UK reached out to my earlier this week about and awesome programme in which they're offer GM residents aged 16+ the chance to borrow an e-bike, for free, for one month.

Participants book the e-bike they want online, collect it from us at Stretford Public Hall, and return it one month later. The whole loan is free, funded by TfGM – we only take card details in case of damage or non-return of bikes. All our bikes are UK legal electric pedal assist cycles, and are provided with a charger, lock, and a helmet if wanted.

At present about 40% of our loans are to women – and they'd really like to increase this to 50% or higher, so he's reached out to companies like me which is pretty cool!

Here is a bookings link for loans starting Friday 19 September from Stretford Public Hall. This date isn’t public yet so it should have good availability of e-bikes in all sizes.
