How can families bridge the communication gap across different generations?

We are incredibly proud to announce that Mediation Plus has secured two years of essential funding from the Garfield Weston Foundation. This generous grant will directly support our Time2Talk project, which provides vital intergenerational mediation for families throughout East Sussex.

When family relationships become strained, having a safe, neutral space to talk makes a world of difference. Thanks to this funding, our experienced mediators can continue to help young people and their parents or carers find constructive ways to resolve conflicts, communicate clearly, and rebuild trust.

We are deeply grateful to the Garfield Weston Foundation for investing in the future of our local communities and helping us expand this trusted service.

Separation and divorce are tough on the whole family, but children often feel the impact the most. They can feel confused, anxious, and unheard during a massive life transition.

That's why we're proud to announce an important expansion to our services at Mediation Plus: Child Inclusive Mediation.

This specialised approach gives young people a safe, neutral space to express their feelings and share their perspectives during family transitions.

By actively listening to children, families can create co-parenting agreements that truly reflect the needs and welfare of everyone involved.

In January 2023, an initiative driven by a group of Village Hall Trustees, with funding from Ewhurst Parish Council (EPC), led to the introduction of a programme of events known as the Community Open Space (COS) project. The project is supported by a dedicated group of volunteers, led by Sue Lyne, COS Project Lead, and managed by the COS Project Committee.

Since its inception three and a half years ago, COS has hosted over 90 events, averaging two events per month at Staplecross Village Hall. Over time, the project has seen a growing number of attendees and volunteers. The dedicated team of volunteers, without whom the project would not be possible, work tirelessly to create a warm and welcoming environment while providing a light lunch and refreshments. The core principles of the project are to reduce social isolation and loneliness and to foster a culture of community engagement, giving the community ‘a voice’. These principles extend to all age groups.

The project team and volunteers have worked hard to embed these values and are immensely grateful to the many organisations and individuals who have supported the project. These include Ewhurst Parish Council Councillors, Rother District Councillors, East Sussex County Councillor, Sussex Police Community Support Officers, Penny Gooding, A Touch of Gentleness, Rother Voluntary Action, Rother Seniors Forum, Londis Store (Staplecross), Veteran’s Growth, Ewhurst and Staplecross Village Hall Trustees, and many more.
