Charlestown Flappers WI Welcome to our brand new WI based in Charlestown, St Austell. A warm and friendly welcome awaits!

Exciting, fun and inclusive our meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7pm, The Pattern Hall, Foundry Road PL25 3FW.

Well today the lovely Karen from “Team Flappers” kicked off with the first Charlestown Flappers Book Group at St Austell Library and had a total of 10 eager readers ready to collect the first book title, which was The Rosie Project by Grahame Simsion! 🥳📚

After Karen welcomed everyone to the group, there was lots of chat about it all over a cuppa - and we now already all can’t wait to hear about it all next month, once everyone has read their copy of the book.

So again, a big thank you to Karen and everyone that came along and we’re sure that the next meeting is eagerly awaited.

⭐️Hello everyone, our next WI monthly meeting will be on Tuesday 16th June 2026 at 7pm, The Pattern Hall, Charlestown, Cornwall.

This month we’ll be welcoming Emily Rodda from Cornish Yarg Cheese as our speaker, who will also be offering us some cheese tasting as she talks to us about delicious Cornish Yarg Cheese.🧀

In line with the CHEESE theme, we’ll be having a “Cheese Theme Competition”!😀🧀😀🧀

So if you fancy joining in, just bring anything along Cheese related, or that reminds you of cheese and we’ll have a bit of fun and have a fun cheesy competition!🤩🧀

We will also be collecting £10.00 (cash) deposits for the Christmas Party on 11th December and if you’re planning to join us on Wednesday 15th July to go and see Priscilla Queen of the Desert at Hall For Cornwall, we will need a (contactless card) payment of £42.65 as well.

So we’ll look forward to welcoming you and seeing you there next week, with a prompt 7pm start for our next Charlestown Flappers WI meeting.

Hello Flappers, we’re looking at the opportunity of going on a rather short notice theatre trip to the Hall For Cornwall in July to see this amazing show.

Nancy has got a block booking for Priscilla Queen of the Desert at Hall for Cornwall on Wednesday 15th July 2026 at 7.30pm.
The cost is £42.65.

So If you’re interested in going, please like or comment on this post and bring full payment (contactless card payment only) along to the next meeting on Tuesday 16th June.

Who fancies a good book?📚📖

In case you missed it, we just thought we’d pop on with a reminder, that it’s the launch of our new Charlestown Flappers WI “Book Group” this Thursday at St Austell Library between 2pm and 3pm.

It’s also doubley exciting as it’s the very first sub group for our new WI group. 🥳📚

Karen from our “Team Flappers” will be there, where they’ll be supplying copies of the chosen book, on a monthly basis, to then be discussed.

So we’ll look forward to seeing any of you on Thursday 11th of June, between 2pm and 3pm and then this will be ongoing on the 2nd Thursday of the month.

Congratulations to the winning WI groups and a massive well done to all the Cornwall WIs that entered the Craft Competition at the Royal Cornwall Show today. One day to go for the Royal Cornwall Show and the Cornwall Federation of Women's Institutes - CFWI Events Team is in full swing. Our President Clare Avent is part of this team and busy there preparing the catering arrangements, so we’ll give a shout out to Clare and all the team setting up - and a big thank you in advance to all the Charlestown Flappers WI members who are going to help volunteer in the WI marquee over the next 3 days.

As well as serving cream teas, they’ll be lots to see in our marquee including competitions, lots of amazing crafts, our WI shop, what we do and much much more.

You may also spot our pennant amongst all the others hanging around the edge of the marquee - and please don’t forget to say hello as well! 🙋‍♀️

Join us for the launch of our new Charlestown Flappers WI “Book Group” and in fact it’s the launch of our very first Sub Group for our WI.🥳📚

Our team member Karen has arranged with St Austell Library to hold her monthly Book Club group there, where they’ll be supplying copies of the chosen book, on a monthly basis, to then be discussed.

The group will be starting on Thursday 11th of June, between 2pm and 3pm and will then be ongoing on the 2nd Thursday of the month.

So whether you’re an avid reader or simply enjoy good company, come along for books, conversation and a welcoming atmosphere. The group will be limited to 12, due to the number of books the library can supply, so if you’re interested do come along and meet Karen who can take your details and share what she has planned.

Thank you Karen for all your work arranging this, we’re very excited about it, know it’ll be popular and we’d love to see there. 🥳👏📚📚

It’s been busy behind the scenes here at Charlestown Flappers WI. We’ve been planning away on lots of things and now have some details of our first two subgroups. So we can now confirm that we have our Book Group starting in June and Craft Group starting up from July onwards.

We’ll be sharing separate posts a bit later on this evening with full details. But the Book Group will be taking place on the 2nd Thursday of the month at St Austell Library, between 2pm and 3pm starting on 11th June 2026 and the Craft group will be from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Pattern Hall, starting from July.

It’s the final countdown to The Royal Cornwall Show this week and we just want give a shout out to everyone at the Cornwall Federation of Women's Institutes - CFWI who are currently working hard to put together, create and fill the The WI (National Federation of Women's Institutes) marquee at the Royal Cornwall Show.

So don’t forget to come along visit the WI marquee when you’re there, especially if you’re new to the Women’s Institute or just thinking of joining - as there’s so much to see, from everything we do, our competitions, the WI shop and of course you can have a cream tea.

There will also be some of us from Charlestown Flappers WI volunteering and along with everyone else, we look forward to seeing you there.
