St Athan Women’s Institute
We welcome women who want to share in the enjoyment of WI, women who want to join WI and are open to anyone living as a woman. We are one of one hundred WI’s in the Glamorgan Federation. Our Federation supports, helps and guides us in order that we function within the WI Constitution and the Charity Commission's Rules and Regulations. They in turn are supported by the
National Federation which brings together all WI’s in England and Wales. Our monthly meeting is now held at the Three Horseshoes pub in St Athan on the first Monday of every month from 1900 - 2100hrs. Our meeting as a whole group is to discuss forthcoming events both local and regional. Followed by a guest speaker, demonstration or an opportunity to socialise with likeminded individuals in a safe, fun and friendly environment. Short outline of a meeting:-
> On arrival (we ask that you arrive around ten minutes early), you will need to register with our Treasurer, Andrea, at the desk.
> Receive a warm welcome from our President, Sian, and introduction to the evenings planned activities.
> Opportunity to speak to the committee or our WI members. You can also submit an expression of interest for any planned events (which may be at/with other local WI’s, the Glamorgan or National Federation)
> Announcements are made where our Secretary, Gill, updates us as to what is happening, when and where.
> Arranged Speaker/Event takes place, this varies from Craft Demonstration, Barry Community Choir, Quiz Night and a wine and Cheese evening ..these are just some examples.
> Time for a cuppa, biscuit and a natter and another look/book for things of interest. Outside of our monthly meetings we have a craft group that meets every second Monday from 1400hrs at St Athan Library. If you are crafty or wish to learn about a craft, there will be talented people there who could teach or advise you. If you are interested in joining our WI, you are welcome to come along. The first three meetings are free before deciding if it's for you and becoming a member where there is a subscription is to be paid. Membership is now £48 a year, payable in April (calculated pro rata if you join part way through the year), as a member you will also receive the National WI Life magazine via the post monthly. If you think the WI is something you’d like to be part of, please get in touch.
