You may have seen today’s announcement that the Government plans to split Hertfordshire into four new unitary authorities from 2028.
We know that this change will raise lots of questions and concerns for families. HPCI is already working to make sure that children and young people with SEND stay at the centre of every discussion about how services might change — both in the lead‑up to 2028 and once the new councils are in place.
We’ll set out more detail about the changes, and our work to influence these, in a future newsletter. You can sign up to receive these here: https://bit.ly/4uLd6n7
Changes to Hertfordshire councils confirmed ✅
The government has announced its decision on the future of Hertfordshire’s councils as part of its Local Government Reorganisation programme.
From April 2028, the existing 11 county, district and borough councils across Hertfordshire will be replaced by four unitary authorities.
Nothing is changing for now; the services we deliver will continue as normal. Behind the scenes, we will be working closely with the other Hertfordshire councils to lay the groundwork for the new authorities. We will share further updates over the coming weeks and months as more details are confirmed.
