Herts Inclusive Theatre is a registered charity (no: 1180955) offering children, young people and adults, many of whom have learning and physical disabilities, the opportunity to participate in drama, dance and music in an inclusive and safe environment. Many of HIT participants can feel alienated from mainstream activities and joining us creates an opportunity and a platform for self expression,

building confidence and making friends. We use inclusion to break down barriers between mainstream and disabled participants offering real-time, experiential theatre practice. The charity is now in it's 20th Year and are at the very heart of Hertfordshire's thriving arts scene, established as one of the county's leading Inclusive Theatre companies . HIT currently works with over 800 children and young people a year offering a vibrant programme of theatre activities, creative projects and exciting performance opportunities. Many thanks to St Albans Council for having us and our Sensory Corner at the Spring Festival Last weekend; it was a pleasure to create the Access Guide for the event, and provide a break away from the festivities for those who needed it;
One mum wrote to us:
"What a wonderful safe space to have at a public event! It helped make this inclusive and accessible to my neurodivergent children to have some 'recovery time', and then be able to rejoin the festival.
Thank you so much for having such an important, accepting and welcoming space for this part of our community."

Exploring the Power of Music

Ever noticed how one song can totally change your mood? As part of last week, we ran a relaxed, interactive workshop 'Mind Space' for young people-
Attendees listened to a mix of different genres, jotted down their reactions, and chatted with others about what came up for them. They also explored simple, practical ways to manage stress and boost your mood, including:

🌿Easy breathing techniques you can use anytime
🌿A guided body scan to help you switch off and reset
🌿A calming visualisation to leave you feeling relaxed and recharged
Whether you’re into music, curious about mental wellbeing, take some time for yourself to chill and connect with your mind and body.

Huge thanks to St Albans Postboxes for selecting us as one of their chosen charities to fundraise for in 2026!
Tanya Byrne, our fundraising manager said:

"We’re absolutely delighted that St Albans Postboxes have chosen to support Herts Inclusive Theatre this year - it means a huge amount to us. The funds raised will help us continue providing inclusive drama sessions, specialist facilitators and accessible resources, giving Disabled people of all ages the chance to express themselves, build confidence and feel a true sense of belonging."

We were proud and excited to make the visual access guide for this weekend's St Albans Spring Festival (Sunday May 17th).
There is lots of support across the festival to make it welcoming for everyone — including a Safe Zone (Communities 1st), Sensory Retreat (HertsInclusive Theatre), BSL interpreters, Sighted Guides, accessible viewing areas, priority seating, a breastfeeding zone, quiet space, and step‑free access. Look out for a Communities 1st volunteer if you need any help on the day.

Organised by St Albans City and District Council and sponsored by Specsavers St Albans & Harpenden and Code Ninjas St. Albans HRT.
