Today HACRO CEO Claire Byrne joined a community session and caught up with one of our participants who has recently been supported by our Employment Advisor, Laura, through our Connect to Work programme.

We are really pleased to say she has now secured herself a new job and will be starting soon 👏

A huge well done to her, and also to Laura who is still fairly new in post herself. Great to already be seeing such positive outcomes from the project.

Our participants were back at Recover today, getting started on upcycling a pair of chest of drawers. They spent the day sanding, filling, and priming the drawers, ready for painting next week.

Another really enjoyable session filled with creativity, learning new skills, and working together. Huge thanks to the Recover Team for all their support. We’re already looking forward to seeing the finished result!

Our participants had the opportunity to put their golf skills into practice on the driving range, using the techniques they learned from the golf professional during lessons Better, Gosling Sports Park

They then took those same skills onto their very first 9-hole course at The Club at Mill Green a fantastic achievement and a great experience for everyone involved!

Well done to all participants for their enthusiasm, confidence, and progress throughout the sessions.

We are always busy at HACRO. Today is a hub day at Chapel Halls, with a wide range of activities taking place including cooking, mentor support, gym sessions, public speaking, and our gardening project.

We also had participants out running and walking today. Fantastic activities to help keep active, engaged, and support positive mental wellbeing.

Great to see everyone getting involved and supporting one another.

We’re proud to share the transformation of an unused plot of land at the Chapel Halls in Wheathampstead into a thriving garden space.

With the dedication and hard work of our participants and volunteers, the area has been completely revitalised and is now home to a growing selection of vegetables and herbs.

This project is a great example of what can be achieved through teamwork, opportunity, and a shared commitment to positive change. The space has been truly transformed, and we’re excited to see it continue to grow.

A big thank you to Ian and the Recover Team for hosting our group for such a fantastic session on gilding picture frames.

Our participants got so much out of the experience, and it was great to see staff getting involved too — everyone thoroughly enjoyed the session.

We’re really looking forward to the next ones we have booked in!

We’re delighted to share that a brand-new Mud Kitchen has now been delivered and installed at HMP Eastwood Park for children visiting their mums.

This wonderful project was made possible through a fantastic collaboration with RoughStuff Oak, whose craftsmanship has created a beautiful, durable space for imaginative outdoor play, and with generous funding from Tilbury Douglas.

The Mud Kitchen will provide a creative, hands-on play opportunity for children during visits, supporting meaningful family time, encouraging interaction, and helping to create positive shared experiences.

We’re incredibly proud of what partnership working can achieve and grateful to everyone involved in bringing this to life.

As part of their Gardening For Health programme, local community interest company The Serge Hill Project was delighted to host groups from HACRO and New Hope this week to plant 130m of native hedging on site. The hedging will encourage biodiversity in fields that until recently, were farmed, and to restore an ancient field boundary, which had been removed 150 years ago. The boundary can be seen on old Hertfordshire county tithe maps of the area, dated from 1842. Hedgerow species planted included hazel, hawthorn, blackthorn, hornbeam, dogwood and wild cherry among others. The group worked with members of the Serge Hill Project and The Barn Garden team to plant 600 plants across the stretch of the field in under 2 hours. We look forward to revisiting them in summer to see their growth!
