We already lost our Greenbelt. Now Govn trying to go after EVERY bit of green by calling it "grey"!?!

Petition says: "Grey belt’ was initially described as poor-quality Green Belt land like disused car parks. We believe the new definition in the NPPF is so broad it could include almost any Green Belt land. The Green Belt prevents urban sprawl, protects nature & supports our health. We urge the Government to restore protections by ensuring that ‘grey belt’ proposals are judged against all 5 Green Belt purposes consistently throughout the NPPF to balance development needs against the many benefits of conservation."

We want an urgent change to the ‘grey belt’ definition in the NPPF. We think the grey belt glossary definition [which] could result in the loss of our countryside forever - vital for health and wellbeing, combatting climate change and supporting wildlife - needs revising.

We think this is sharing.

We think the Government's Planning & Infrastructure Bill is bad for nature and bad for the countryside. The Bill as currently proposed would - among other things - reduce the opportunity for legal challenges of large infrastructure projects, reduce democratic input for local authority planning decisions by restricting which planning applications could be decided by elected Councillors, and create options for developers to pay into a Nature Restoration Fund rather than taking responsibility for biodiversity protection and enhancement. CPRE together with over 30 other environmental organisations have written to the Government expressing our concerns and asking the Government to reconsider.

Do we believe SEGROplc? Or is this a case of bridge construction being cheaper than a tunnel?
This is clearly a material amendment.
We suspect there’ll be a lot more “non material” amendments to follow.

Developers Segro have applied for a non-material amendment to their original planning permission which will see an approved tunnel scrapped in favour of a storey-high bridge overlooking nearby Napsbury Park.

We welcome support & campaigning for our fight as an apolitical campaign group. ⚖️
We continue to hold to account Hertfordshire County Council and St Albans City and District Council who continue to let you and us down! 😔

Local Cllrs Nuala Webb and Terrie Smith have, and still do, campaign in person where they can. They held public meetings and roadshows, and demonstrated a few times outside County Hall between January and June 2023 against the land sale. They now regularly meet SEGROplc to raise concerns and continue to hold them to account.

At the Scrutiny & Overview meeting called by Sandy Walkington in May 2023 Stella Nash sent a representative, subsequently there was no actual scrutiny of the reasons why the land should be sold to SEGRO. The land was sold a month later 😔

**Park Street Roundabout**
So turns out the carnage and destruction of trees had a reason but HCC and SEGRO only deigned to tell all AFTER the fact 🙈🤦🏽‍♀️
If you subscribe to updates from SEGROplc you will have received an email with the plans and explaning it is for the road widening and potential lights for A roads.

The onslaught continues in South Herts.
Cala Homes and the proposed homes along Watling Street. 🚘🚚💨
"sensitive and good traffic Mgt from Watling Street"? Yes...in a place that piles back from Park Street roundabout already...gridlock on its way...🚘🚚💨
Not only is Park Street being uglified it's being built up purportedly "40% affordable housing, 5% self build"
Use their QR code to get in touch:
https://watlingstreet.uk/
Ask them e.g. why a children's playground is being exposed to an area likely to be highly polluted by HGVs and traffic increase, and the lack of trees!

What you will see is a developer doing as they please with no accountability! As warned by us.
Our councils are ineffectual at holding to account it appears. Hertfordshire County Council nor St Albans City and District Council has reached out or intervened for you/us nor updated us. Or you as to how SEGRO is continuing to "uglify" this part of St Albans.

Thank you to those who attended the SEGRO exhibition at the Village Hall this week.
Please now see an updated Q&A section provided to us by Mick, their liaison.
If you have anything further we are still here to help.
