👏 Huge congratulations to a team from 1st Saffron Walden Boys’ Brigade who won the Mini Trek at the Waltham Walk this weekend!
Thomas Joy, Jaxon Rocks and Arthur Rowlands covered around 30km across the Essex countryside, navigating between checkpoints using only a map and compass, camping overnight and cooking their own food.

Despite starting last on Sunday, they quickly took the lead and finished first with an impressive 385 points — just 8 points ahead of second place! 🥇

They showed fantastic teamwork, navigation and determination, even taking on checkpoint challenges (including kayaking on the River Chelmer!).

Company Captain Andrew Turner said he’s “really pleased” with the team, praising their skills and teamwork — especially as they’re such a young group.

👏 Well done boys — already planning next year’s challenge!

One of our group BB members Hayden was proud to represent us on a day volunteering as stewards at the Buckingham Palace Garden Party!

The event was attended by The King and Queen, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, along with a number of distinguished guests and thousands of invitees. Hayden carried out a range of duties to help keep everything running smoothly—and did an amazing job!

It truly was a brilliant day from start to finish, and we’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a special occasion.
And to top it all off… Hayden even got to shake Queen Camilla’s hand!

🎉Congratulations Josh!🎉

At our recent Parade Service, one of our Senior lads, Josh, was presented with his President’s Badge - the second-highest award at BB.

To receive this award, Josh took part in volunteering roles, attended Camp last summer, and completed a “Faith Journey” element, as well as attending and engaging with our weekly meetings on a regular basis.

Josh was presented with his award by local councillor Cllr Arthur Coote.

The lads from Company and Seniors put their culinary skills to the test in a cooking challenge - but on a £5 budget.

Each team were given a course to complete - starter, main or desert and were tasked with coming up with a tasty dish with the given budget. The "judges" were served a starter of bruschetta and onion rings, a main course of chicken goujons, homemade fries and a spicy sauce, and a chocolate Rice Krispie cake for desert

Well done to the main course team for getting the highest score!

The atmosphere in the hall was brilliant, with everyone getting stuck in and showing real teamwork. Some groups experimented with new ingredients, while others focused on perfecting simple classics. There were plenty of laughs, a bit of friendly rivalry, and a lot of creativity on display.

The judges were genuinely impressed with how far each team stretched their £5 and the presentation of the final dishes. It was a great mix of fun, learning, and practical skills – and everyone left with full stomachs and big smiles

Had a cracking night with our Boys’ Brigade lot last week. We set up a little woodwork session and the boys made their own wooden phone holders.

Honestly, it was brilliant watching them get stuck in — measuring, sawing, sanding, the whole lot. A few “oops” moments and plenty of laughs, but they all pulled it together and ended up with something they were genuinely proud of. Proper wholesome chaos, they smashed it! 🪚💪

On the final night of the Boys' Brigade 2025, we celebrated together with a wonderful meal at the Jade Garden Chinese Restaurant. The food was delicious and set the tone for a cheerful evening, filled with laughter and camaraderie.

After dinner, we enjoyed our traditional Christmas-themed games, including a lively round of pass the parcel and our much-loved "12 Days of Christmas" sing-along, all thoughtfully organized by Maxine and Spencer Taylor. It was the perfect way to round off another fantastic year at BB, leaving everyone with great memories and a strong sense of togetherness as we look forward to what 2026 will bring! 🎆☃️🎉
